This hits so hard. I had a very similar experience several years ago as the HH RN admitting the infant to Hospice so that the baby could pass at home. Mom's goal was to at least nurse her baby one time before removing a life sustaining med. All departments had to align to prevent this family from getting an outrageous bill. Unfortunately, we're in a system that if the patient is on xyz program or insurance, the cost is $25, but the patient on a different program could be billed thousands of dollars for the exact same care. I will never forget this special admit I was able to help facilitate. I will never forget this tiny human, meeting her family at home, then going onto her next journey; out of sight but always near. As I left the home, the sky was red, orange, pink, with big puffy clouds and of course, a rainbow. I keep that picture of the sky on my phone and will never forget that experience as long as I'm alive.

It is sad state when the system makes it easier to continue care in the hospital than to receive hospice in the home
Kudos to the demonstration of compassionate care and a team effort so that this family could have special time with their newborn infant????????

1 个月I wish those involved with administration and insurance were as selfless and patient centric as those who are on the front lines of healthcare. I see numerous examples where doctors and nurses go out of their way to care for patients, only for the same patients to drown in the bureaucracy and red tape trying to pay their bills.
