Unlocking Wisdom at Work: The Power of Asking the Right Questions In our work environments, we're surrounded by untapped wisdom—insights, perspectives, and feedback that often remain unspoken. Why? Because people may be afraid to share or assume we aren't interested. By asking the right questions, we can access this valuable information and improve our interactions. Choose Curiosity: Genuine curiosity shows others that we care about their thoughts, encouraging them to open up. Ask yourself, "What can I learn from this person?" Ask Quality Questions: Effective questions aim to request reactions, invite ideas, or clear up confusion. Avoid clumsy or leading questions that might seem insincere or biased. Listen on Three Levels: 1. Content: Focus on what is being said. 2. Emotion: Pay attention to the speaker's feelings. 3. Action: Observe their behavior during the conversation. By listening for content, emotion, and action, we can better understand and connect with our colleagues, fostering a more collaborative and successful workplace. #Leadership #Communication #Curiosity #ListeningSkills #CareerGrowth

In a story by Simon Sinek, he shares the value of emotional intelligence and timing in communication. After attending a friend’s poor theater performance, he realized it wasn’t the right moment to give critical feedback, as emotions were high. Instead, he expressed genuine support and pride. The next day, once emotions had settled, he gave honest feedback in a calm, rational conversation. The lesson here is powerful for the workplace and all communication: Sometimes, honesty can wait. Emotional intelligence is about understanding the right time and the right way to communicate difficult truths. You can’t mix emotions with rationality in the heat of the moment. If you do, the message may not be received well. Key Takeaways: - Timing is crucial in giving feedback. - Emotional intelligence allows us to be both truthful and considerate. - Separate emotional conversations from rational discussions for better outcomes. - In the workplace, this approach fosters stronger relationships, trust, and effective communication. #EmotionalIntelligence #SimonSinek #Leadership #CommunicationSkills #HonestFeedback #WorkplaceCulture #TimingMatters #EmotionalAwareness #RationalConversations #EffectiveCommunication #TrustBuilding #WorkRelationships #FeedbackCulture #ProfessionalGrowth #PersonalDevelopment #ConstructiveFeedback #Teamwork #LeadershipDevelopment #EmotionalIntelligenceAtWork #MindfulCommunication #EmpathyInLeadership #SelfAwareness #WorkplaceSuccess #Collaboration #PositiveWorkEnvironment #HonestyAndEmpathy #CareerGrowth #GrowthMindset #WorkplaceLeadership #AuthenticCommunication #EmotionalResilience

As a faith-based executive coach dedicated to helping teams thrive, here’s one piece of advice I’d give to someone looking to enhance communication + productivity… Normalize asking CLARIFYING questions. So much of our energy - mental, emotional, and physical - gets wasted on assumptions and guesswork. In our personal lives or at work, we often try to decode what someone else meant, what success looks like, or what the next step should be. The real problem? We’ve made it uncomfortable for people to ask clarifying questions. As leaders, parents, and partners, we need to create environments where seeking clarity isn’t just welcomed, it’s expected. Imagine how much smoother things would be if we normalized asking those simple questions. If we invited our team members, spouses, and children to seek clarity - without judgment. Asking “What does success look like for this?” or “Is there anything you need clarity on before moving forward?” could save us from endless confusion + frustration. Let’s start leading with openness and set the expectation for clear communication. In EVERY interaction, make room for questions that clarify outcomes, standards, + expectations. The result? LESS wasted energy + MORE focus. Let’s create environments where CLARITY is king. ?? How do you strive to create clarity in your workplace & home? I’d love to hear in the comments below! #communication #clarity #purposedrivenleadership #leadershipdevelopment #dropthearmor

Jason Bliss once found himself entrenched in a self-centric world, disconnected from the experiences of those around him. A poignant remark from a co-worker sparked a transformation - a journey towards empathy that reshaped his personal and professional life. He replaced apathy with genuine care, learning to understand and share the feelings of others. This shift didn't just foster stronger relationships; it illuminated the true value of every person he met. And in this realization, Jason found that empathy is not about seeing people as extensions of ourselves but recognizing them as unique individuals, equally deserving of respect and consideration. Now, he urges you to embark on your own empathy journey, fostering deeper connections and becoming a more effective communicator. If you got value from this, please follow me! I write daily about engineering management, team dynamics, and processes needed to build engaged and successful teams. #EmpathyInLeadership #Communication #PersonalGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment ----------------------------------- Check out the full article, written by Jason Bliss, at https://lnkd.in/grEXkjpy

Awareness and intentional listening are critical skills you need to master! How are you showing up in the system with others? Moving from EGO -ECO begins with getting curious and using listening as a superpower!
Do you know the difference between an ECO vs EGO system? The level of listening we engage in profoundly affects how we connect—or don't connect—with others. Levels 1 and 2 fall under the domain of the self—the ego. Here, it's all about individual POV and experience. The ego thrives on pushing our agenda, showcasing our expertise, being right, and controlling every aspect of the conversation. But guess what? That mindset breeds division and obstructs us from fully absorbing another person’s input. By advancing to levels 3 and 4 of listening and bringing others along with us, we transition from an ego-driven mindset to an ecosystem approach. In an ecosystem, we cultivate awareness, empathy, and curiosity. We start to notice, observe, and genuinely get curious about what others have to say. This shift allows us to harness the power of listening, becoming more aware of how we listen, create dialogue, and ultimately influence outcomes. Moving from EGO to ECO is about shifting from isolated self-interest to a shared interest, where collaboration and collective understanding lead to meaningful progress. Let’s embrace an ecosystem of listening and transform our interactions. ??? #Leadership #CommunicationSkills #Listening #Ecosystem #Empathy #Awareness #Collaboration #PersonalDevelopment #PresencingInstitute

In our daily interactions, we often default to telling others what to do or think. While efficient, this approach can lead to resistance, misunderstandings, and disengagement. Shifting from a telling mindset to an asking mindset fosters better relationships, encourages collaboration, and creates a more positive environment. Why Asking is More Powerful Than Telling When we ask questions instead of giving directives, we open the door to dialogue and mutual understanding. This approach shows respect for others' perspectives and empowers them to contribute their ideas and solutions, transforming communication from a one-way street into a collaborative journey. Key Strategies: Practice Asking Rather Than Telling: Use open-ended questions to encourage others to share their thoughts and feelings. This leads to more meaningful conversations and fosters a sense of ownership and engagement. Adopt an Abundance Mindset: The scarcity mindset values limitations and fears, leading to controlling behaviors and reluctance to seek input. An abundance mindset, on the other hand, embraces possibilities, encourages open communication, and values diverse perspectives, creating a more positive environment. Express Gratitude: Show gratitude by asking for input and acknowledging others' contributions. This reinforces positive behaviors, strengthens relationships, and builds trust, encouraging collaboration and mutual respect. Incorporate these strategies into your daily interactions to improve your communication style, create more engaging and respectful relationships, and experience a positive impact on both your personal and professional life. #EffectiveCommunication #GrowthMindset #Leadership #Empowerment #Gratitude #PersonalDevelopment #SuccessTips #ExecutivePresence #ExecutiveCoaching #EPWorkshop
