In my last post, I wrote about how Nvidia's lock-in on AI training and inference may be eroding. One case study came out today from Stability AI and Intel's Habana Labs, a startup Intel acquired in 2019 to compete for AI training workloads. Still, switching costs have a long way to drop, a vision that startups like Modular are quickly pursuing by eliminating hand-tuned, hardware-dependent model development processes. News like this makes me think ownership of AI will not concentrate to a powerful few. Instead, it will be accessible to many the way Cloud and SoCs are today.
