Jan Glarum makes a good point about using Emergency Management Assistance Compacts (EMAC) to help with novel incidents like the one Louisiana is experiencing. EMACs are states helping states by offering assistance during a governor-declared state of emergency or disaster that allows states to send personnel, equipment, commodities, and other services. While we South Dakotans may not know much about Hurricanes, Alligator infestations, and other typical emergencies in Louisiana and other Southern states, however, as the “Farmers Insurance” commercial tagline states, “We know a thing or two because we’ve seen a thing or two” when it comes to snow/ice and frigid temperatures. ? ??
