A really interesting article about the finality of buildings and the lack of understanding about durability of some materials.
But when the conversation of RAAC comes up I’m always surprised that the industry is still looking for the low carbon wonder concrete to solve the climate problems.
We’ve had all sorts of concretes billed as the future of concrete over the last 50-60 years and more often than not they are not durable or have issues. Why does our industry believe that concrete is a material for the future? or is it simply that too much money has been invested in the supply chain and we have all been brainwashed to think concrete is the miracle material.
What can RAAC teach us about sustainable construction?
We need to design buildings with flexibility and long-term maintenance in mind, and then look after them, writes Alex Lynes for Building Design.
