I just wanted to send my appreciation out to the OASW and all the Social Workers you have attended the group I have co-facilitated for the past 3 years. We are onto a 4th year and have booked our fall dates.
Plans for expanding the group and inviting other allied professions is on the table.
My panelists are amazing and change a bit each year. They include FN, Inuit, and 60's Survivors , Racism Specialists...all coming from different communities, backgrounds and professions.
The synopsis of our group:
Join the Conversation: Showing Up as Allies
Presented by OASW Local Engagement Networks??
Tuesday, October 29 | 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. ET | Online
We are excited to continue the Showing Up as Allies series, inviting social workers passionate about learning to explore how we can support Indigenous communities as true allies. These sessions are designed for those eager to grow, connect, and deepen their understanding of Canadian colonialism, allyship, and reconciliation. Each session will feature a teaching component, followed by a group circle discussion, where every participant is encouraged to share their thoughts and experiences, regardless of your knowledge, education, or background. This is a space to learn together and grow through meaningful conversations. Guest speakers will help guide us through key topics and questions, exploring the impact of allyship and how it contributes to reconciliation. Possible discussion topics include:
Child Welfare
Housing
Racism and Cultural Appropriation
Indigenous Revitalization
and much more...
Whether you're new to these discussions or have been engaged in this work for years, everyone is welcome. Feel free to register for one or more sessions. By registering, you'll receive notifications for each session, but you can choose to attend only those that fit your schedule. Follow-up emails with resources will be sent for sessions you've registered for, allowing you to continue your learning journey.
Please note, these sessions will not be recorded to create a safe and respectful space for open dialogue. We encourage participants to foster a collective culture of care, respect, and self-care, especially when discussing sensitive topics.
If you are an OASW Member we would love you to join us.
If you are not an OASW Member and any of this seems interesting to you. Shoot me a message.
In kindness, S
