All Things Public Education: A different standard defines a different pedagogy. Let's develop uniformity by changing the thrust of education from a few college professors to a few thousand teachers in the field who know the culture of their area and teach to it, around it, in it and with it. Then we can see results of a methodology which shifts the paradym of education to address the individual needs of our local students.

The Meaning of the Liberal National Curriculum for England A useful report by David Conway from 2010 on the intellectual origins of the National Curriculum for England. The critics of this remarkable educational achievement, Conway argues persuasively, misunderstand both its intellectual origins and the initial intent, and Conway is surely more right than wrong. Well worth a read as the National Curriculum for England undergoes a fifth major review. I think that original liberal educational intent must be restated for today, as it is a very fine one indeed. The young really should be provided with access to the very best that has been thought and said. This is our first pedagogic duty as teachers. And this is not a politically conservative point, as knowing about the past, and the traditions of academic thought, is a condition for imagining the new. "As a teacher, your classroom is your bread and butter. Quality Teaching Rounds is helping us make sure we have good quality, engaging lessons." Chifley College, Shalvey Campus (or Shalvey as it’s affectionately known by teachers and the community) started Quality Teaching Rounds in 2020, however the pandemic and ongoing teacher shortage slowed down plans to roll it out widely across the school. there are so many nice platitudes directed at teachers - emphasis on caring and connections before curriculum, etc. But these are sometimes so condescending. Teachers KNOW this. We are in the classroom so many hours a day with these kids. Directing these comments at teachers as if they are not doing enough is another myth that destroys the profession. Direct these comments at government educational departments and their policies and curricula. And perhaps get real input from teachers as to how these can be designed. Teachers are subject to everybody's grand ideas of how teaching should be done as if we are complete idiots. As if we don't know better. It often breaks our hearts to see the pressures put on children to do more and more in less time - as if that is an indication of better education. Fix the system rather than educators. We have enough to deal with.

Reconstructing adult education for the common good With this special issue of Forum, focusing on adult education, the aim is to reignite debate. As John Holford states in the editorial, "Adult education is an essential ingredient in creating a resilient, tolerant and democratic civil society.
