Teachers play such an important role in shaping the minds of our future generations. Take a moment this week to show appreciation for all the hard work and dedication they put into their job every day! One way to show support is by donating to organizations that support teachers, such as the Million Dollar Teacher Project. Additionally, you can donate directly to classrooms to help provide necessary supplies for students. Just ask your nearest school, teacher friends, or send me a message! Another way to show support is by recognizing and thanking teachers on social media. Post about a teacher's dedication and tag them and their school to show your appreciation publicly. If you are a teacher, don't forget to take advantage of some special deals and discounts that are available during Teacher Appreciation Week. Check out this list of places where you can score some great deals: https://shorturl.at/oyzCM Let's all come together to show our gratitude and support for teachers who work tirelessly to educate and inspire our youth. Thank you, teachers, for all that you do! ???? #TeacherAppreciation #SupportTeachers Timothy Honan + Marcela Campbell + Haven Guyer + Lloyd Hopkins

*Repost* - in support of our friends at United Way Oxford, we are sharing their post from earlier this week, asking our followers to consider supporting their Supplies 4 Students campaign. Continue sharing this post so we can reach as many people as possible. Supplies4Students Needs Your Help! As we prepare for another school year, many families in Oxford County are facing tough financial decisions. The cost of school supplies can create an overwhelming burden, especially for those already struggling to make ends meet. That’s where Supplies4Students steps in. This essential program provides much-needed assistance to families, ensuring that every child has the tools they need to succeed in school. From backpacks and notebooks to calculators and pens, Supplies4Students helps alleviate the financial stress that can hold children back from reaching their full potential. Your donation to Supplies4Students no matter how large or small, can make a direct impact on a child’s education. By supporting this program, you’re not just providing school supplies—you’re empowering students to learn, grow, and thrive academically. Last year we supported 1,316 students across Oxford County from 647 families. With our community's increasing demand for support, United Way Oxford is projecting that 1500 local students will need support, which means together, we need to raise $75,000 this summer! Let’s come together as a community to ensure that every child in Oxford County starts the school year with confidence and readiness to learn. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Together, we can equip our children for success and build a brighter future for our community. Invest in children today, to create a brighter future. #LocalLove #SchoolSupplies #BiggerTogether #OxfordCounty

Producer @ Lockton | Helping clients take on risk with confidence | Passionate about delivering great experiences
Why am I raising money to donate books? Imagine a world where your zip code determines your access to stories, knowledge, and dreams. A staggering 82% of CPS elementary schools lack a functioning library, a basic necessity we often take for granted. The disparity grows as we learn that libraries exist in only 10% of primarily Black schools and 21% in Latinx schools. Now, picture a child's home. In 61% of low-income families, not a single age-appropriate book graces their shelves. Yet, studies show that children growing up in homes with at least twenty books gain an additional three years of schooling compared to their peers from bookless environments. Books are more than just paper and ink. They are windows to new worlds, bridges to immense possibilities, and the keys to unlocking untapped potential. Join me in turning the page on educational inequality. Your donation to Working in the Schools (WITS) can light up countless lives, one book at a time. Do you know of a library we can support? I have learned so much about youth literature, funding challenges, and the politicized education challenges. We, as journalists, stay non-partisan but try to offer solutions in the way we would in our day jobs -- tell a story, convene a community, and offer solutions. The May Book Project is an academic approach to building diverse libraries through an AANHPI lens. It helps with student belonging. It's student and scholar-led. It gives librarians a choice -- typically we give schools an opportunity to pick 50 books out of a list of 320+. It supports curriculum to schools and states that will never mandate AANHPI history. We, as humans (and moms!) have to find a way to serve our communities without changing laws. We need to work together, out of silos, to ultimately serve the next generation and the heart of our communities.
We are proud to serve schools by donating books to libraries. Can we serve yours, too? - Did you know only 9 percent of books are considered "diverse"? - Did you know the principles of youth literature including mirrors and windows -- seeing yourself and learning about the lives of others? - Did you know that seeing a book that speaks to a child can change their views on belonging? - Did you know that many states still face challenges getting diverse books and AANHPI curriculum in schools? With a choice of 320+ books vetted by national scholars, The May Book Project works with schools that have tighter restrictions because it gives them choices and allows them to celebrate a book donation. Thank you 3x Olympian Alexander Massialas for being a secret reader yesterday at John Yehall Chin Elementary! Thanks to our sponsor AvalonBay Communities for making it happen with Gia Vang and Christine C. Ni.
