Givio is so proud to be working with Dig Deep Vermont to help raise funds for Vermont's family farms as they try to recover from catastrophic flooding and extreme weather. When Across the Fence, asked local Vermont farmer, Joie Lehoillier why someone should support Dig Deep Vermont, her message was this: "It is SO important to get behind your farmers." In the interview, alongside Dig Deep Vermont co-chair, Molly Mahar, Joie makes it clear that family farms are struggling as a result of the barrage of historic and extreme weather events. And as a crucial part of the fabric of Vermont and with fewer young people going into farming, it's important to support the local family farms through this crisis, or else there won't be any local farms left. Joie and her husband own and operate Foote Brook Farm where they and their 14 employees grow a wide range of produce, from Asparagus to Zucchini, feeding local residents, restaurants and tourists who make a point to stop and get garden fresh vegetables and berries before heading home. The past several months of historic flooding, extreme weather and crippling rains have cost the farm their crops, equipment losses, and more as they've struggled to repay loans for seed and to retain their employees to prepare for the spring growing season. As Joie says, it's been like 'putting out one fire after another.' They're looking forward to moving on and microgrants from generous donations to Dig Deep Vermont will help them and other Vermont farmers do just that. Dig Deep VT is a first-of-it's kind fundraising effort spearheaded by Vermont community, business and government leaders. Their collaborative effort is an example of how determined people with vision can think outside of the box to help overcome the obstacles to disaster recovery. Proof that success has many fathers and grandfathers, and failure is an orphan. 2016: https://lnkd.in/ex-rH7Ru The 526-Five (Boykin, Honeycutt, Moody, Pryor, Sass) and Middleton ask the wrong Question #1. “The risks are enormous,” is the P&C print headline on this Independence Day. ? Below is the article. I hope that throughout this long weekend, often spent with family and friends, celebrating our independence, where we achieved self-governance rule through elected representatives, you will read to consider the implications and your various leadership duties fully. ? You may take false comfort in the prohibitive costs of securing the existing economy and defining the dry future platform. So why bother to encourage and make a serious plan for our county? All you can do is get folks worried as the P&C article may move some to ask, “Where do you, as our representative, plan to put all this water?” that is encroaching on?us, and?given the P&C article (and much of science), will increase. You offer false comfort in a package of roads that you well know will provide diddle squat about congestion. ? The first necessary condition for every municipal entity is the county’s decision of where to put the additional water, as those implications are difficult and uncomfortable. It will not be as smooth as traveling along the $300 million per mile Mark Clark Extension (526). That will not be the case, as your analysis shows. ? Looking at the flood maps of your district with a modest 6 feet of inundation, where will that water go along with the cost, health, and economic impacts on the residents and residences in the district?you represent? Forget about the rest of Charleston County; what do you say to your people? As a county, we are all left holding your wet legacy bag. ? Beyond the end of your term in office lies a vast amount of water that?will be added to the county and impact many vectors and sectors of the economy. That beautiful bond rating you are proud of will tank when the higher risks of the 526 repayments are associated with unmitigated high water and?shitstorm?impacts. The raters will be the first to run along with the informed residents who get out. ? “Let them eat 526” will not be a diversion to keep people in place, not see enough of their wet feet that will remain here before folks realize that the last mile from their homes is underwater. Left out but essential roads to evacuate, access the 526 and the seduction veils unfunded dangled road improvements used to secure a yes vote in the fall referendum question you ask. ? The 526-Five (Boykin, Honeycutt, Moody, Pryor, Sass)?and?Middleton?ask the wrong Question #1. Fred Palm July 4, 2024
The SC Office of Resilience attended the Ehrhardt Street Tunnel Extension Project’s ribbon cutting this week in Charleston! Since completing the project, we've already watched as flooding from major rain events has been reduced to just inches. See how this mitigation project is a product of successful collaboration between the City of Charleston, Medical University of South Carolina, Roper St. Francis Healthcare, South Carolina Governor's Office and more.

The recent water main breaks in downtown Atlanta serve as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by aging infrastructure across the United States. The multi-day water outage disrupted businesses, including a major hospital and the country’s busiest airport. Residents faced low water pressure, and some offices had to close due to the interruption in water service. Repairing and maintaining aging infrastructure is an ongoing challenge for cities like Atlanta. Water main breaks have an annual cost of $2.6 billion in both the U.S. and Canada. The economic impact includes lost productivity, emergency repairs, and inconvenience to residents and businesses. The recent incidents highlight the need for continued investment in infrastructure renewal. The city’s response, including declaring a state of emergency, reflects the urgency of addressing these issues. In summary, Atlanta’s water main breaks underscore the importance of modernizing infrastructure to ensure reliable services for residents, businesses, and visitors. Have you been affected? Share your stories below. #WaterDisruption #AtlantaNews #Infrastructure #StateOfEmergency
Atlanta, our community’s well-being is our top priority. I have been visiting senior centers and various locations to ensure everyone has access to clean water. I know how urgent this is, and we’re working around the clock to keep you updated. Thanks so much for your patience and understanding as we tackle this together. Just a heads up: the boil water advisory is still in effect for the impacted areas, following Georgia EPD guidance.
