This room design is a revised version to a previous design. I just needed to make a few changes, now this section of the space flows seamlessly. E-design allows revision and changes much simpler. #edesignmoodboards #virtualinteriordesign #e-styling #e-decorating #smallbusiness #homeremodel

After a few weeks of what I'd call a "soft launch" into the commercial & institutional #interiordesign space, I wanted to officially update my network that I am serving as editor-in-chief on i+s Magazine - that's interiors + sources, in case you didn't know! (Still working on LEDs Magazine - very different audience, though.) ?? I'm delighted to be working with esteemed editors as part of the architectural & design team at Endeavor Business Media (closely related publications BUILDINGS and Architectural Products), including Robert Nieminen, Janelle Penny, Lauren Brant, and Jeanie Fitzgerald. This is such an exciting time full of possibilities in the A&D space. Yes, there is a lot of concern about open #realestate and the future of commercial buildings. But that's a GOOD thing, in my opinion, because it opens the door to productive conversations about reinventing or reconfiguring those environments to better meet objectives for wellbeing, connection, and sustainability. Between #adaptivereuse of buildings, efforts toward embracing #universaldesign, options for multipurpose spaces, and so much more, there is no end to what the interior design profession can bring to the table. "Design with purpose" is the tagline on i+s for a reason. Far beyond "pretty pictures," i+s seeks to deliver inspiration, solutions, industry insights, and educational support for interior design professionals. If I could do it without hurting myself, I'd be doing this right now... ??♀? I'm far too out of practice, so instead I'll settle for this: ?? Bookmark https://www.iands.design/ and please reach out with proposed content, notable projects, and innovative products for the design audience.

?? The Power of Materiality in Design ?? Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the docontract MAD Talk with Matteo Ferrari, a talented interior architect whose work truly captures the emotional potential of design. One of the highlights of our discussion was the role of materiality in crafting powerful narratives within spaces. Matteo shared insights on how materials go beyond aesthetics—they become storytellers, evoking emotions and creating connections. His work, like the Aesop shop in Madrid, is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and material choices can transform a retail space into an immersive experience. Another highlight from our conversation was his courage to embrace change—shifting from urbanism to retail interior design which he love the two of them, reminded me of my own transition, from the world of business into interior design. While my love for business remains strong (I can’t help it, I’m always thinking about improving organizational systems!), I’ve found incredible fulfillment in the creativity and emotional depth that design allows me to explore. #materiality #interiordesign #docontract #madrid

Have you ever walked into a space that felt like it pulled you into another world? That’s what experience-based movement in interior design is all about—creating spaces that don’t just look good but invite people to connect and interact meaningfully. When we partnered with Stephen Nottingham and his team at FREN Inc. for the Telfair Children's Art Museum, the vision was clear: blend art and tech to build more than just a room. We wanted a space that brought stories to life, where technology wasn't a backdrop but an active part of the experience. Using Falkbuilt Ltd.'s innovative components, we incorporated adaptable, tech-integrated walls that helped make each visit feel like a new journey. Stephen’s work took the design beyond aesthetics, making each wall and corner a part of a playful, dynamic interaction that evolves with the visitor. ARCHITECT Magazine has a great read posted in the comments if you’re curious about how innovation is pushing interior design into new territories. How do you see tech shaping the way we experience spaces? Let’s chat about what experience-based design means for the future!

Ever walked into a room and felt like it was giving you a hug? No, you're not losing your mind--the way I see it, that's experiential design at work. Forget the days when interior design was just about making spaces look pretty. We're now in an era where walls have feelings, and floors have opinions. Or at least mirroring those feelings and opinions. I walk in that room and say to myself, "damn, I really needed that hug." Experiential design is the therapist of the architectural world, focusing on why it matters, rather than how this space can be pretty. Picture this: schools that don't feel like prisons and hospitals that don't scream "You're going to die here!" That's the magic of experiential design. It's turning our physical environments into 3D mood boards, considering everything from our cultural quirks to our emotional baggage. As this trend grows, expect to see more offices that don't make you want to impale yourself on your stapler, and retail spaces that empathize rather than schrill with a glad-hand jingle poke. The future of architecture is here, and it sees you. This article is a good read. #ExperientialDesign #InteriorTherapy #ArchitecturalMindGames #HumanCentricSpaces
