Metformin decelerates aging clock in male monkeys Researchers investigated the geroprotective effects of a 40 months metformin treatmenr in adult male cynomolgus monkeys. The study, publishedbin Cell: https://lnkd.in/eaBJJCH2, involved a multi-omic analysis, including transcriptomics, methylomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, to develop novel monkey aging clocks. Metformin significantly slowed aging indicators, most notably a 6-year regression in brain age. This neuroprotective effect was partially mediated by Nrf2 activation. The findings demonstrate the potential of metformin to systemically reduce biological age in primates, offering promising avenues for pharmaceutical interventions against human aging. #genetics #genomics #aging #longevity #antiaging #precisionmedicine #genomicmedicine #brain #neurology #neuroscience #cognition #omics #multiomics #rna #metabolism #transcriptomics #metabolomics #neurodegeneration #aging #longevity #drugs #drugrepurposing #biomarkers #therapeutics #biotechnology #innovation #research #science #sciencecommunication

A recent 40-month study reveals that metformin prevents brain atrophy and enhances cognitive function in aged male primates. By slowing aging across various tissues, metformin exerts a substantial neuroprotective effect, partially through Nrf2 activation. These findings highlight metformin’s potential in reducing biological age, paving the way for innovative pharmaceutical strategies against human aging. Further research is urgently needed in this area! https://lnkd.in/d-fs2kqV https://lnkd.in/duz2fZNk
