An Inside Look at BMW’s Wet Molding System?? Hop on! Let us take you on a journey through BMW's Wet Molding System?? BMW's wet molding line uses Dieffenbacher's CompressLite press designed for high-precision, energy-efficient operation. ?? Dieffenbacher says wet molding enables a high degree of automation, including tool change systems so that changeover from one product to another is possible within ~10 minutes. ? Dieffenbacher's process chain begins with ultrasonically welded stacks of carbon reinforcements. These are transported by a robot with a needle gripping system to a table where a camera checks the position of the stacks and reports on the accuracy of the layers.?? The stacks are corrected if required and then placed on a shuttle table with an integrated weighing system. Two resin robots apply epoxy resin to the stacks, a process which is weight-controlled to ensure part reproducibility and quality. The resin cabin's ventilation system can handle 5,000 m3/hr for venting of fumes during this open process.?? After the robot places the stacks into the mold, the press closes and cures the stacks at 150oC. Once the press opens, a robot extracts the cured parts and places them into a cooling press. Cooled parts are then removed and placed on a discharge conveyor for quality inspection before being queued for vehicle assembly.?? Follow us for more composite adventures!?? ?????? ?????? ???????? you can injection mold metal? ?????????? ?????????????????? ?????????????? aka "MiM" is a process that first gained traction in the 1990's that has now turned into a $?? ???????????????? ???????????????? ????????????????. During my time here in Germany I toured the Zimmer Group facility which uses MiM to manufacture in-house components as well as contract manufacture for hundred of other companies. The general process for MiM is to mix a combination of #powderedmetal of either steel or titanium with a polymer or plastic material. It's injected into a mold to create it's initial form. Afterwords its baked in an oven to remove the binder which can reduce the overall size by 20-30%. This process is used for complex parts where production is in the thousands compared to standard CNC subtractive manufacturing. At the end of the video you can see a injected part vs a completed part compared to a similar CNC'ed part. Zimmer Group has many setups of this process which also feature their new ZiMo flexible robot cell that allows customers to create easy machine tending with a selection of different #robots and #cobots tied in with a PLC and pneumatic control. The Universal Robots used a GZ1000 gripper for the machine tending and part picking.
