Changes In Consumer Preferences Consumer tastes are always changing, so companies gotta stay on top of what their customers are really into. It's like, if you don't keep up, you're gonna get left in the dust. So, they gotta be all ears to what their target audience is craving and adjust their game plan accordingly. 2. Changes In Product Life Cycles Every product, from a new phone to a fresh pair of sneakers, has its own lifespan. It's fascinating how we've gotten here. A whole generation of marketers was raised, trained and gotten used to ROI KPI tracking with the false sense that because they can track it they are moving the needle. But this couldn't be further from the truth. For starters, social media and digital are excellent performance marketing channels. The direct feedback loop that you can offer through a compelling CTA to consumers is beyond anything marketers could have ever dreamed of back in the 70s when they were using coupons tear outs to acquire leads. It's not surprising then that cold-calling and door-knocking was such an imperative part of the marketing machine for so many decades. Today sales reps still play a major role, but primarily in B2B and by using much more efficient methods (there are exceptions in B2C, but these are often done through account-based selling). ???????? ?????????????? ???? ??????????, loads of research have uncovered the true long- and short-term effects of marketing. And while web traffic, CTRs, VTRs, CACs, etc. can give us short-term signals on how an initiative is performing, we must remind ourselves that this is a tiny portion of what marketing is actually accomplishing. Being able to track digital conversions at scale at the bottom of the funnel is great, but that shouldn't be the main driver of your marketing program. So much of it today still CANNOT be easily tracked. Consumer journeys are increasingly complex, and digital attribution models largely miss the offline journey (and misattribute the online journey due to poor data on targeting, bots, and bad reporting). ?????????? ???????????????? ?????????????? ?????????? ?????????? ?????????????? ???????? ?????????? ?????????????????????? ????????????????, such as TV, radio, OOH, and so on. Channels which, when paired with online video, can achieve even greater business effects. But unfortunately, for most small brands econometrics studies are too expensive to be ran each year. However, there are good solutions today (such as Tracksuit) that can help brands understand the effectiveness of their brand building initiatives. As Les Binet and sarah carter wrote in their latest book "How Not To Plan", we must realize that the lenses through which we are looking at online performance are narrow and completely miss the big picture: "It's human nature for our eyes to alight on movement not stillness. We ignore what Sherlock Holmes called the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime, ie the dogs that don't bark in the night. Some 90% of people who visit a social site don't post anything. We focus on the 10% who do. Futurologists and journalists are culprits here, since their raison d'être is to highlight what's new and changing.” #marketing #advertising
