?? Did you see the good news from earlier this week?? ?? ?? Of the 97 newly appointed Recorders, more than 50% of them are women ?? For many years, we’ve seen women under-represented within the legal profession at senior levels, but that news, together with other 2024 stats, give some solid, evidence based, cause for cautious optimism this week!! ? When in 2019 I wrote my book, Raising the Bar: empowering female lawyers through coaching, the stats around women in leadership positions were considerably lower even than today: Over the last 5 years then, we are seeing some gradual improvements, albeit admittedly it’s still pretty slow going. Having said that, I choose this week to celebrating the wins of those fabulous women in law by comparing how the stats have changed, to give us all some reason to celebrate too! ?? Today’s 2024 stats are outside the brackets, 2019 ones are bracketed. ·?????37% (29%) of partners in private practice female & 28% (19%) of Equity partners. ·?????35% (28%) of Circuit Judges are female, 30% specifically in the High Court; ·?????21% (15%) of Silks or King’s Counsel, women. See for yourself why we should have some cautious optimism today and for the future, with a healthy side order of “plenty still left to do” of course….
