They are committed to sustainability and are actively seeking a new Associate Director - Sustainability to develop and execute their new ESG framework over the next 12 months. Your new role You will be a self-starter with a practical approach to business improvement that focusses on adding value to the business. Your roles and responsibilities will include the following, across three broad phases of work to develop and execute an ESG framework: Discovery phase: ? Identify current and future scope of disclosure requirements and standards applicable to the company ? Provide a report on the impact on the company's strategic objectives, business processes, system and financials, and climate-related risks and opportunities and forecast effect on the company's cash flows, its access to finance or cost of capital over the short, medium or long term. ? Map data requirements (including gap analysis of current systems) to evaluate data to measure, monitor, and manage key sustainability and climate-related risks and opportunities (including appropriate assurance on their accuracy and reliability). Have you considered adding someone to your in-house legal team with ESG expertise? One positive trend I am seeing is the creation of ESG roles on large in-house legal teams. These roles are a recognition of the fact that ESG is a critical and complex subject for companies, and in-house legal teams need to be at the table. f you are adding this to your team, what kind of skills should you look for? ? Commercial accumem ? Strong communication skills ? Experience with the ESG challenges relevant to your industry ? Broad exposure to a wide variety of ESG issues ? Competence with regulatory compliance and reporting Keep in mind that many ESG challenges are new. You will not be able to find professionals with 5 years of experience working with regulations that came out 2 years ago. Focus on finding professionals with exposure to ESG issues, experience in 1-3 critical areas, and strong transferable skills. The good news is that there is a lot of great talent out there!
