Thailand’s competitive edge in the bioplastics sector stems from its rich resource base, robust government policies, and comprehensive incentives. The country's leadership in producing key feedstocks such as cassava and sugarcane underscores its strategic advantage in bio-based plastics production. This growth is bolstered by the Bio-Circular Green (BCG) economic model, which underscores Thailand’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). Coupled with targeted financial and non-financial incentives, including tax breaks and support programs, these policies actively drive the shift towards sustainable, biodegradable plastic solutions. THE BUSINESS CASE FOR NATURE-FRIENDLY AND ETHICAL PALM OIL PRODUCTION With the sustainable palm oil market projected to reach a value of USD 1.64 billion by 2032 (Source: OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook, Future Market Insights), businesses are recognizing the need for nature-friendly and ethical production to remain competitive. The shift toward sustainable palm oil production is not only essential for environmental conservation but also crucial for capturing market opportunities. At the ASEAN Business & Biodiversity Forum, organized by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, NRES Malaysia, and PETRONAS, during the session on Investing in Nature-friendly and Ethical Production: Experience from the Palm Oil Sector, MSPO emphasized how sustainable practices drive market access and business growth in the palm oil sector. MSPO Leading the Way: Over 80% of Malaysia’s palm oil planted areas are now MSPO-certified, offering third-party assurance that palm oil is sustainably produced and managed. Business and Sustainability Hand in Hand: MSPO certification, mandatory since 2020, supports market access by demonstrating adherence to strict sustainability standards, ensuring Malaysia remains a global leader in responsible palm oil production. Empowering Smallholders and Producers: Through MSPO certification, smallholders and large-scale producers alike are equipped to meet the growing demand for ethical palm oil, supporting both economic and environmental goals. As the demand for sustainable palm oil continues to rise, nature-friendly practices are now a business imperative. MSPO is committed to advancing sustainability and driving positive change in the palm oil industry. For more updates on MSPO’s participation in this forum, you can refer to the social media links that feature the ABBF as follows: NRES - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) ACB - ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity #MSPO #Sustainability #EthicalPalmOil #Biodiversity #ASEANBiodiversity

For those of you who filled out our poll... The correct answer is: ?????? ??????????! ?? Did this statistic surprise you? At Enviu, we believe upstream plastic waste prevention would be crucial in lowering these numbers. In fact, Alner - a Zero Waste Living Lab (a program by Enviu) venture, is doing just that. Alner provides fast-moving consumer goods products in returnable containers, targeting local communities and small local stores, with the main goal of reducing sachet consumption. What do YOU think is the most effective way to prevent plastic waste from reaching our oceans? Leave your ideas in the comments below. Malaysia ranks among the best whenever it comes to....which also reminds me that a certain select industry also often features Malaysian winners on the global stage and I can't help but wonder if our practice and finished product in this industry is really all that superior. Back to microplastic, the study points to something fishy ?? ********* The study, published in the Environmental Science and Technology journal, found that Malaysians eat an average of 502.3mg of microplastics daily per capita. It noted that more than 50 per cent of Malaysia’s microplastic consumption came from fish. Malaysia was also recorded among the top 10 countries that inhaled the most microplastic particles, at an estimated 494,000 microplastic particles a day per capita, according to the study.

In a recent presentation, I highlighted the importance of leveraging trending #metrics and #statistical methods to boost the supply of food-grade post-consumer resin into waste management systems. This initiative aims to enhance the key performance indicator #KPI of sustainable waste practices. Addressing challenges in sourcing food-grade post-consumer resin for food applications aligns with Canada's goal of achieving #zero #plastic waste by 2030. Despite efforts to promote a #circular economy of plastics, food contact packaging remains outside the regulatory framework for food safety reasons. The involvement of stakeholders, including plastic manufacturers, industry leaders, retailers, and consumers, is crucial in advancing the provision of separate waste collection. Collaborative efforts are essential to drive progress towards a more sustainable future for plastics in #Canada. A special #thanks to Sara Bayi for her insightful information and technical guidance on statistical methodologies and analyzing big data. #sustainability #zero #plastic #Health #Canada #data #analysis #environment #ECCC
