The Philadelphia Tribune and IBX's #OurCommunityOurHealth campaign returns to highlight health disparities in the African American community as well as systemic issues that may impact positive health outcomes. Through creating healthy habits, staying up to date with vaccines, knowing your family health history, exercising, and eating healthy, we can address health disparities in the African American community and improve the health of generations to come. Thank you to new ambassadors Ala Stanford, MD, FACS, FAAP and Nicole Allen White, and returning ambassadors Charisse Lillie, Douglas I. Oliver, Joe Tucker, and Dr. Leroy D. Nunery II, NACD.DC for encouraging positive steps toward better health. https://lnkd.in/e_x6fuJx

The count down begins.. The 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in December 2008 adopted a resolution on the “recognition of sickle-cell anaemia as a public health problem,” and urged Member States and UN organizations to raise awareness of SCD on June 19 of each year. It is for this reason we commemorate and celebrate World Sickle Cell Day world wide. #WorldSickleCellDay #CelebraringSickleCellDisease #CelebratingWarriors #RaisingAwarenessOnSCD

?? How can we shift from treating diseases to promoting well-being and preventing health challenges in the first place? This Global Week for Action on NCDs challenges us to step up — it’s “Time to Lead” in creating environments that empower healthier choices. With nearly 1 in 8 adults worldwide living with overweight or obesity (WHO, 2024), the path forward lies in personalised interventions such as researched in the EU-funded #BETTER4U_EU project that make healthy living more accessible to all. Health is not just a personal journey but a collective effort — our environments shape the choices we make. ?? ?? Ready to take action? Visit the campaign website and #LeadOnNCDs: actonncds.org/take-action. Let’s #ActOnNCDs and build communities where everyone can thrive. ?? April is National Minority Health Month, a time to raise awareness about the health disparities that continue to affect racial and ethnic minority populations. This year's theme, "Be the Source for Better Health: Improving Health Outcomes Through Our Cultures, Communities, and Connections," emphasizes the importance of understanding the social drivers of health (SDOH) that uniquely influence these communities' health experiences. SDOH factors like access to quality healthcare, education, and healthy living environments can significantly impact overall well-being. By creating a more inclusive healthcare environment, we empower individuals and communities to make informed health decisions and achieve better health outcomes.
