" A Great new epoch has begun. There exists a new spirit. Industry, overwhelming us like a flood which rolls on toward its destined end, has furnished us with new tools adapted to this epoch, animated by the new spirit. Economic law unavoidable governs our acts and our thoughts. The problem of the house is a problem of the epoch.?The equilibrium of society to-day depends upon it.?Architecture has for its first duty, in this period of renewal, that of bringing about a revision of values, a revision of the constituent elements of the house. Mass-productions is based on analysis and experiment. Industry on the grand scale must occupy itself with building and establish the elements of the house on a mass-productions basis. We must create the mass-production spirit. The spirit of construction mass-production houses. The spirit of living in mass-production houses. The spirit of conceiving mass-production houses. If we eliminate from our hearts and minds all dead concepts in regard to the houses and look at the question from a critical and objective point of view, we shall arrive at the “House-Machin,” the mass-production house, healthy) and morally so too) and beautiful in the same way that working tools and instruments which accompany our existence are beautiful. Beautiful also with all the animation that the artist’s sensibility can add to severe and pure functioning elements." ? LeCorbusier, Towards a New Architecture, 1931 #wisebuilld

Lloyd Alter writes: “A look at Tye Farrow's extraordinary new book, Constructing Health. He is the heir to one of my architectural heroes, Richard Neutra. I interviewed Tye for Treehugger for one of my last posts on Treehugger and put the recording on YouTube. I wrote at the time, “Spending an hour listening to Farrow was an extraordinary experience.” Reading his book is also an extraordinary experience. It is packed with so much information, so much research, and it is written so well. Then he goes and takes these concepts to design extraordinary buildings, mostly for education and health care. Farrow quotes Richard Neutra in the book, and in many ways, he is heir to him. Neutra worked mainly in steel and concrete, unusual and innovative materials at the time. Esther McCoy wrote in Richard Neutra for the Masters of World Architecture series: “Neutra took nothing for granted, but reexamined every building practice; no member or detail or material escaped his scrutiny. His buildings of the twenties and early thirties brought into the folds of architecture various elements that would never again be alien.” Farrow is doing similar wonders with wood, turning it into sculptural forms, “connecting the dots between mind, environment and performance.” Neutra was perhaps ahead of his time; We know much more about how our psychosomatic organism ticks. Tye Farrow has given us a marvellous mental tool chest full of information, ideas, and inspiration. It belongs on every designer’s bookshelf.” Full article: https://lnkd.in/gTM9sBrG Book available at: https://lnkd.in/gPrfznX5 constructinghealth.ca #causehealth #constructinghealth #enrichedenvironments #architecture #salutogenesis

// FRACTAL FACADE // Our ScienceDesignLab is honored to collaborate on such an important project, where our neuroscience research on fractal patterns has been implemented for the first time on a large-scale surface: the facade of the State Hospital Deutschlandsberg in Austria. The expansion of the palliative care unit, designed by INNOCAD architecture, goes far beyond traditional construction - it shapes an environment that reflects compassion, dignity, and healing. The facade, a white steel ribbon perforated with fractal patterns, serves both as a sunshade and a gateway to nature, promoting a sense of peace and connection. This science-driven design, developed in collaboration with Dr. Richard Taylor from the University of Oregon and Fractals Research, incorporates the stress-reducing properties of fractals while enhancing the diffusion of daylight. ??? Unveiling the Hidden Complexities: Valuing Historic Building Materials In the world of historic restoration, there's an art and science to assessing the true worth of historic building materials that goes far beyond a simple price tag. As someone deeply passionate about preserving America's architectural heritage, I've discovered that valuing these materials is like solving an intricate historical puzzle. Key Challenges That Make This Work Fascinating: 1?? More Than Just Bricks and Mortar Historic materials aren't just construction components - they're time capsules of craftsmanship and cultural memory. Each brick, beam, plaster cornice, or tile is a piece of historic fabric that tells a story that transcends its physical form. 2?? The Authentication Maze Determining the authenticity of historic materials requires detective-like skills. We're talking forensic-level investigation into production techniques, means and methods, regional variations, and provenance that would make even Sherlock Holmes impressed! 3?? Preservation vs. Valuation Tightrope How do you economically assess something that's simultaneously fragile and priceless? Balancing technical condition, historical significance, and potential restoration value is no small feat. ?? Pro Insight: Valuing historic materials demands an interdisciplinary approach that blends architectural history, material science, economic analysis, and cultural preservation. We are tasked with valuing the nuts and bolts, the art and crafts. - Ultimately it’s all about preserving human stories, architectural and cultural heritage. Who else is passionate about architectural conservation? Drop a comment and share your experiences! ?????? #ArchitecturalHeritage #BuildingHistory #Restoration #HistoricBuildings #PropertyLoss #PropertyClaims Thoughts? Let's start a conversation about restoring and preserving our architectural legacy! ??

Historic Preservation is a passion that flows through us here at Christman. It’s so much more than saving a building—it’s about preserving the stories, the energy, and the history that the building holds within its walls, while also making a positive environmental impact by reusing and revitalizing existing structures. Here’s our series, “Discovering My Passion for Preservation at Christman.” Today, hear from Chad Teeples, our Project Executive in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, and part of our Historic Preservation Group. ?? Why I Found My Way to Historic Preservation My journey into historic preservation started thanks to my mentor, Ron Staley, FAPT, APT RP. His passion for HP rubbed off on me early on, and once I participated in my first HP project, I gained a true appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into these historic buildings. It’s simply amazing to witness the skill and detail behind them. ?? What Drives My Passion? For me, the passion for HP revolves around two things: The incredible craftsmanship and the skill required to build with limited tools. The stories these buildings hold. Standing in a room where history may have unfolded sparks curiosity in me, driving me to learn more. ? A Memorable Experience One memory that stays with me is from visiting a historic property with an interpretive architect from NPS. Walking into the main building, she became emotional, saying, “Look around, everything was left in place. Can you imagine the workers in here?” As I looked closer, I saw a small sink with soap, towels, a razor, bedding on a cot, and work clothes on a hook. That moment, over 20 years ago, shifted my perspective forever. Now, every time I step into a historic building, I allow my imagination to run wild, connecting deeply with the past. Historic preservation is more than just preserving structures—it’s about appreciating the craftsmanship, honoring the stories, and keeping the history alive. #HistoricPreservation #Craftsmanship #StoriesInStone

"A curated view of where innovation is happening in marketing today, why it matters, and how it is transforming modern business". --- Iconic structure. We see the application of architecture in various sectors, and in many cases, we come across truly unique and remarkable projects that can be considered innovative. For some time now, I've also had the chance to observe projects related to religious sites, and Lloyd Wright's Wayfarers Chapel outside of Los Angeles is one of these. Built in an organic style, it features large geometric windows surrounded by an intricate steel frame that incorporates the surrounding environment into its design, echoing the architectural language of Frank Lloyd Wright. The chapel, completed by his son in 1951, has remained a popular destination ever since. Following an increase in land movement surrounding the area, the organization has announced it will disassemble the landmark for preservation. Affiliated with the Swedenborgian Church of North America, Wayfarers Chapel was constructed between 1949 and 1951 and serves as a memorial to the 18th-century scientist and theosopher Emanuel Swedenborg. ?? ?? Ragnar's Riddles 520 ?? I stand, still—oh, but not silent. No, I hum. I breathe. I watch. Walls—stone, steel—skin of memory, Whispering secrets, secrets... of time’s clutch. Do I cradle? Or contain? You decide. My windows, they see. My doors? Wide. Wide enough for dreams, for fears— For you. Always you. Through the years. Built, yes—by hands, but born… of Sun, And Earth—primal forces, two… now one. Tell me, now—what am I? Answer: Architecture Reflection: Architecture is a reflection of human existence—its permanence and fragility, its beauty and practicality. It is both the container of our stories and a silent participant in them. It bridges the past, present, and future, embodying the complexities of memory, emotion, and aspiration. The "walls" and "windows" symbolize both barriers and invitations, mirroring the human condition’s duality of seeking connection while guarding vulnerability. “Buildings, too, are children of Earth and Sun.” – Frank Lloyd Wright This quote poetically reflects the interconnectedness of architecture with nature and humanity. Just as the riddle speaks of walls that “shiver with memory” and windows that “see through time,” Wright’s words emphasize that buildings are born from the natural world and shaped by its forces. They are neither inert nor separate but vibrant entities—formed by Earth’s resources and illuminated by the Sun’s energy. The imagery ties beautifully to the riddle’s layered symbolism, bridging humanity’s creative spirit with the universal forces that sustain us. #RagnarsRiddles #Architecture
