It's Prime Day! ...Prime for the scammers to trick you into a good deal. Suddenly Prime Day has turned into every retailer's "day" with seemingly-slashed prices everywhere. Some tips to make sure your good deal isn't too good to be true: 1) Research prices at other merchants. If it's $5 on the site you're on but $50 everywhere else, it's likely too good to be true. Think of a bell curve. If it's an outlier compared to others, it's probably a scam. 2) Ensure you're on a legitimate retailer site. This goes for all online purchases (including travel)! Nearly identical sites to Amazon pop up. Make sure you're on Amazon.com by typing that directly into the browser or use the app. 3) Don't click the link! Scammers are sending out millions of emails pretending to be legitimate retailers with amazing deals inside of the email. 4) Ordering something that's a lot of $$? Have it shipped to an Amazon locker instead of your home to keep porch thieves away. Have a question about a potential scam? Message me! I get texts from family members and friends all the time asking me to check into emails/texts/situations! #fsb #fsb1879

Petty thefts and small-time scams have been prevalent in the internet business for long. So, how could quick commerce have been immune? Missing discount vouchers, bogus refund claims, or even cigarette packs being stolen—it’s all happening with the likes of Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto. While these may be small amounts—barely Rs 100 per order—it all stacks up. Quick commerce companies are now fortifying their position with internal safety teams and external fraud detection companies. Sudarshan Devraj explains more, in the latest edition of Scam Season. https://lnkd.in/d6qtW23N

In my chat with The Information's Ann Gehan on the giant 9-figure #ecommerce problem in #returns #appeasements #exchanges and #refunds, I talked about how #ai is making all of us, the good and bad actors in commerce, more effective. For a returns scheme even two years ago, you might have a "how to" post on Reddit or in a Telegram group to get a 100% refund plus a promotional voucher might have been read by 10,000 people. But now, it’s so easy for fraudsters to spin up a chatbot to place orders, go through the chat, or even the phone experience for customer support, and say the exact things that are going to lead to a refund based on the retailers policies, that attacks are orders of magnitude more lossy. DM if you'd like to chat about what Signifyd and my teams are working on to counteract this rise and how much more efficient we can make your teams.

Tired of your favorite brands tightening up returns and refund policies? You can thank not only regular consumers avidly claiming “item not received” or ordering multiple sizes/colors with the intent to return most but professional fraudsters are magnifying the challenge. With fraudsters using info-sharing forums, groups on the dark web and malicious GenAI, fraud and abuse have become more prolific and sophisticated. Because of this, 3 in 4 online merchants say they feel overwhelmed by policy abuse, while 84% find it harder to detect abuse of their returns and refund policies. This recent article from Riskified on Yahoo Finance shares how retailers are paying the price of the policy abuse epidemic. https://lnkd.in/eg4yN-9R

The continuous fraud and discrimination use of "Digital Coupons". As past manfuacturer and broker, I know the in's and out's of excessive charge backs. However, as a consumer I must take a stand of the recent Digital Coupon hoax to shoppers predominately in nationally owned Supermarkets. 1). Grocery retailers who offer "Digital Coupons" are not as they appear to be. 2). Many of their retail store locations have inept wi-fi systems that don't work properly. 3). When the consumer scans a digitial coupon, 9 times out of 10 while doing so in the store.....it does not register or compute. 4). If you don't have a "smartphone", such as senior citizens you are no able to participate in the discounts, or if the system is down in the retail store you are denied. 5). Personally, I have found this system "BS" at many of the supermarkets in the Phoenix market. 6). I believe the FTC should investigate this abuse since it is depriving millions of consumers by defrauded them of the platform they are to use in order to save money. TIMES ARE TIGHT FOR MILLIONS OF CONSUMERS, LET'S GET THIS PROGRAM RIGHT.
