He got two more chances than officers would have righteously not given him in years gone by, believe it. https://lnkd.in/gQ2qEvjb

Active shooter events have captured the public’s attention for some time now. What is clear from public response is that police o?cers are expected to quickly enter attack locations and stop the shooter when an attack is ongoing. ALERRT Executive Director Dr. Pete Blair reviews a study in which current law enforcement officers were surveyed to see if they believe they should immediately enter an active shooter scene solo, as opposed to waiting for backup prior to entry. Excellent article The methodology really highlights that the training since Columbine(25 years ago -April 20) of responding to a driving force is working. While there have been crucial failures, like Uvalde, the mindset of today’s first responders has shifted, so that calling SWAT and waiting is not acceptable. In the ALERRT classes I have taught, there is always one constant. The most aggressive wins. It is by no means a scientific study, no control groups, not double-blind, but you would have to be blind not to pick up on that one truth. The most aggressive wins. It’s better with more “good guy” guns in the fight, but even one in one, when the officer aggressively confronts the suspect, it goes better for the officer, and subsequently all the role players who would be victims, if the subject were not fixated on the responder. I have made the point in training that this tactic is terrible for most of the day to day encounters law enforcement has. Empathy and understanding are far better tools for the majority of an officers calls, but when faced with an armed aggressor targeting civilians, it’s time to shift. In a school shooting, the subject may have a rifle, and the cop has a pistol, but the kids just have crayons. It is not only our sworn duty to respond aggressively, it is also the safest course of action for us. Time and time again I watch in training as even a hesitant response changes once the officer engages. The shooting stance gets better, they advance instead of retreat, and are far more successful in stopping the subject. It may only be paint rounds and blank simulators but there is no denying the adrenaline is real. And when you see the most aggressive officers win the encounter over and over, it resonates. See the below article which is a much more scientific look at the mindset of responders.

If I could snap my fingers and make three-quarters of guns in the U.S. disappear, I would. There are just too many (more than one per person). On the other hand, this story clarifies that citizens with guns routinely stop criminals. I know of examples among my friends and family. What the article fails to also mention is that there are surely a larger number of crimes that are never initiated because criminals don’t want to take the risk that their potential victims may have a gun. No one knows how many crimes didn’t happen because Americans possess firearms. Also notable: people of color are vastly more likely to be be assaulted with firearms (mostly by other PoCs); most firearm deaths among whites are due to suicide. Interpret that as you may. https://lnkd.in/dgKxQe2p

Had time to digest the FBI's 2023 active shooter annual report. While the number of incidents declined slightly from 2022 - 48 vs 50 - it remains 8 TIMES higher than in early 2000s. The first step to solving a problem is admitting you have one. America, we have a problem. And it will take systemic improvements to correct - to mental healthcare, societal norms, firearms legislation, security and law enforcement training. What we have documented here are 48 avoidable tragedies. #activeshooter #activethreat #publicsafety #gunviolence #security #lawenforcement #fbi https://lnkd.in/gmPQZutr

We hear a lot about the need for resources for Police, Fire, EMS etc But yet when we approach agencies about who we are, what we do and how we have and can benefit their people we get radio silence. Can anyone tell us why that is? Comment your thoughts below.

Just asking for a friend, with dt being a convicted felon, he can't be around with people who has weapons, right? If so, then it's believed that the Secret Service with him doesn't have any weapons, correct? Then those Secret Service Personnel could be charged with crimes knowing a convicted felon shouldn't be around weapons. Select # 1, if dt should be charged. Select #2, if the Secret Service should charged. Select #3, if the law doesn't matter because dt has white privileges. Waiting on your responses, my friend is writing his Thesis for his Dissertation. Thanks in advance!!
