If you know me well, you know I’ve always loved starting new things that make a difference in the world - whether it be a nonprofit, a business, or a program. That's why I'm excited to share that my brother-in-law, Will Petter, invited me to help co-found an ambitious new company that he is launching.?American Dream Home Services has a vision of helping homeowners retain access to high quality home services while also creating a ?????????????????????? ???????????? ?????????? ???? ????????????????, ????????????????????????, ?????????????? ?????? ???????? ??????????????????. In my hometown, and likely in yours too, it’s increasingly difficult to find basic home services in a timely manner. Meanwhile, in Colorado, more than 50% of the owners of these businesses are considering selling in the next five years.?Private equity groups are seizing this opportunity and gobbling up these businesses left and right.?But, the main people that benefit in those transactions are the wealthy few. Will hopes to change that with American Dream Home Services by creating the largest employee-owned national network of quality home services providers. I’d like to thank ?? Tom Lillig and Brad Rogers for their insights into how to grow this business, Laura Quinn Andrea Delorey, M.Ed. and Kati Clement-Frazier for showing me how to foster leaders, Erik Weihenmayer for co-creating a framework to help unleash potential in people, Jamie Moldafsky for reminding me to stay focused, George Heinrichs for teaching me the wisdom of the for-profit world, Ron Kubit for helping my brother-in-law get his first job in Colorado, Tom Sullivan for reminding me to go big or go home, Monika Goozen for years of trusting nonprofits I started, Steve Clouthier for showing me how to best map customer journeys, Jill Royster for the passion and energy she always brought to new ventures, and Julie Dubin for enjoying the highs and lows of founding businesses with me.

There’s a change of ownership taking place when it comes to new business creation in the United States. Nationally, applications for new businesses swelled in from 2019 to 2022, according to?a new report from Brookings. Black and Latino business ownership grew, while the share of businesses with white owners remained flat. Black business owners went from making up only 5% of U.S. business-owning families in 2019 to 8% in 2022, according to the Brookings report. While the Pittsburgh region kept pace with the national trend of new business creation — with a 37% increase in new business formation during the same time period — southwestern Pennsylvania lags when it comes to the diversity of entrepreneurs responsible for the surge. https://lnkd.in/ev4kaZBt

Twenty-three years. That's how long our development approval process took, leading us all the way to the Supreme Court. Today, as we finally break ground on 20 custom-built single family homes, I'm watching my father's unwavering vision become reality. What began as an empty ten acres of woodland—dismissed by many as having "limited possibilities"—is transforming into a thriving development, proving that persistence prevails. This milestone marks the culmination of my journey supporting my father through complex development challenges. After watching him navigate thirty years of red tape and weather setbacks from those who didn't share his vision, I stepped in, determined to help bring his project across the finish line. My unique background as a real estate broker, attorney, and licensed general contractor became the perfect toolkit to untangle these challenges. What started as a daughter helping her father has evolved into a passion: guiding others through similar journeys. Recently, I took on a 44-acre project, working with a family who inherited the land. Together, we're navigating zoning requirements, managing wetlands delineation, and developing strategic marketing approaches to maximize their property's value—applying every lesson learned from my father's project. You can become an expert on anything. The only difference between success and failure? Unwavering commitment and resilience. My guiding principle remains unchanged: I come from good people, and I help good people. Whether you're launching a new venture or pivoting careers, remember—expertise isn't about where you start. It's about your commitment to learning, growing, and never giving up on your vision. #RealEstateDevelopment #WomenInRealEstate #WomenInBusiness #LandDevelopment #Entrepreneurship #FamilyLegacy

?? I have a profound respect for our tenant partners at OakGrove Companies Management Group. Today we profile one of my favorites, Tru Functional Health. I first met them during due diligence. And what I saw was mind blowing. ?? There were clients that were coming to visit that were cancer patients, not able to walk, coming in a wheel chair and there were people coming in that looked like professional athletes. They serve EVERYBODY and their goal is to make their clients feel and perform better regardless of where they are. Our small business tenant partners are inspiring to me, not only because of how creative and ingenious they are but also how committed they are to the communities they serve. Remember. When a business owner wins, they get paid last. When a business owner loses, they pay FIRST. So be sure to give ALL the love to small local businesses this year. ?????? In fact, tag your favorite local business below and why you love them. ?????? Let’s send a tidal wave of cash to them this year. ?? Because when you make that choice, you are reinvesting back into your own community! Which will make you and your community wealthier! ?? #realestateinvesting ?? #commercialrealestate ?? #biggerpockets ??? #realestateinvestor

???We're proud to feature Jon Morris with Beacon Partners as our April Member Spotlight. ?? Here's a peek at his bio: “Jon’s energy and passion for life are contagious,” is the opening for Jon’s biography on the Beacon Partner’s website. It goes on to describe him as thorough, passionate, and determined. Once you know him well, this is a true reflection of what he stands for. His responsibilities with Beacon Partners include overseeing the leasing, acquisition, and development platform for their industrial business, which is primarily focused on the Carolinas. He is also tasked with following existing clients as they expand geographically. His personal goal in relation to this industry when we asked him about the value of REBIC’s advocacy in driving the health of the Charlotte region is as follows: “We need to get the UDO to a spot where we grow our density, as a key component to creating affordable housing. If we cave to NIMBY-ism and limit demand by crimping the supply of residences (single family, townhomes, apartments or otherwise), we will drive up housing prices and further erode affordability [options]. We have learned that lesson from California, Seattle, Austin, Denver, and numerous other peer cities. Let’s employ that wisdom in our policymaking.” ?? https://lnkd.in/e4jH5sUJ #charlottenc #charlotte #uptownclt #mecklenburgcounty #cltrealestate #rebic #joinrebic #cltcc #ncpol #rebicmemberspotlight
