When we launched the Tanna Fund a year ago, I knew we'd make an impact. We would raise money, make grants, and build community. NONPROFIT SHOUT-OUT: Edition 47: Recommended by Sara Tucker Dontavious Young founded the Big Ideas Foundation (Non Profit) (BIF) to empower young people in underserved communities to become leaders and change-makers through innovative educational programs and community engagement. In a world transformed by the COVID pandemic and social awakening, the Big Ideas Foundation offers a unique approach. They combine scholarships, entrepreneurial education, experiential learning, community engagement, mentorship, and a strong sense of ownership. BIF aims to empower underserved students with community engagement, entrepreneurial skills, tangible experiences, and learning the importance of mentorship. Their program's core goal is to nurture community leadership. They teach vital entrepreneurial skills, including Business Management, Marketing, and Economics, focusing on the sustainable success of coffee while also allowing students to explore other industries to which these skills can be applied. The curriculum that Dontavious Young has developed will one day help change the entire public school system in America. By providing opportunities to public school students, they bridge the equity gap and increase their chances of attending college or starting businesses. Native leaders are sounding the alarm and demanding change in a powerful new anthology called “Invisible No More: Voices from Native America.” “Invisible No More” features stories from diverse Native nations, shedding light on the ongoing struggle for justice, the historic and current impact of genocide and settler colonialism, and the theft of Native land and resources that facilitates the racialized consolidation of wealth in philanthropy and beyond. Join “Invisible No More” essayists Michael Roberts, president and CEO of First Nations Development Institute; Trisha Kehaulani Watson-Sproat, owner of Honua Consulting; and Heather Fleming, executive director of Change Labs, in conversation with Carmen Rojas, PhD (she/her), president and CEO of Marguerite Casey Foundation, for a timely look at how lessons from Native community building can redress historic and ongoing inequities, create just societies, and cultivate a better world. Maestro Entrepreneur Center doing some important work supporting entrepreneurs - just imagine when we equip those leaders with the tools to meet local community needs and do impact work!! There’s no need to reinvent the wheel when we have great partners. One way I learned this is through dispute resolution programs that stabilize affordable housing, which are unfortunately riddled with disputes. The idea is simple and effective: resolve disputes out-of-court with trained mediators before the issue escalates to the legal level, saving both parties tremendous resources in the process, and enhancing the relationships with more agile working agreements.

Meet Don, a Franklin local with many remarkable stories to share. With an incredible history of achievements, Don has a wealth of experiences to draw from. Here, he recounts his time as a transport coordinator for a building supplies business just outside of Wellington. Observing a bottleneck of vehicles trying to pick up stock during business hours, Don introduced a simple yet ingenious solution that is now widely adopted in the industry. This idea not only eased operations but also significantly boosted the business's income.
