Join Connie as she explains the connections of plantation songs, or Negro Spirituals with meanings and interpretations of lyrics of some songs used in regions of the South that signaled a multiple of signs and tips that aided enslaved fugitives to find freedom. Powerful, sacred songs that derived from the heart of the antebellum enslaved African were melodic outflowing of religious expression, passion, and the hope to be free. Negro spirituals, as originated in America, tell of sorrow, trials and tribulations, secrecy and hiding, and hope for a sense of community. Tickets are $5.00 https://lnkd.in/gBQGzqC2

BLACK PASTORS SELLING THE BLACK COMMUNITIES - As a young Catholic priest, I had the privilege of working with a group of black pastors, mostly non-Catholics. I was the diocesan spiritual advisor of African American (Black) Catholics Ministry. Needless to say, that was when I learned more than enough of my black brothers and sisters pastors. I later left the group for the military chaplaincy. There is a triad that have held our black communities and inner cities in bondage and perennially impoverished even with almost a century of voting Democrat: black pastors, black activists and black politicians. The triad actively work together to fleece, siphon and redirect funds meant for local communities programs to their bank accounts. Obama once worked for such local community organizing group in Chicago and ended up selling his soul to the devil - the reason why he couldn’t return back to Chicago and have not utter a word with all going on in Chicago including high crimes and high murder rate!! That’s why these black pastors continually desecrate the black churches by allowing these corrupt politicians to use their pulpits to bambuzzled and lie and make empty promises year after year, elections after elections, and our black communities still remain hell holes! Yet, we are quick to play victims and blame white folks and white supremacy for our problems. Look at what’s going on around the country and who are being pushed out from their communities programs facilities to accommodate immigrants crossing the borders. Whose policies opened wide the borders - Democrats! Who are losing jobs to these immigrants? Mostly black folks!!

Professor? Charmaine A. Nelson’s new book, # 8, "The Precariousness of Freedom: Slave Resistance as Experience, Process, and Representation" (August 2024) is now available from Captus Press Inc.? - Black Maple Magazine: Charmaine’s Zone: Books “The Precariousness of Freedom: Slave Resistance as Experience, Process, and Representation" examines diverse forms of slave resistance across three centuries and four empires—British, Dutch, French, and Spanish. It goes beyond the traditional focus on overt actions like rebellions and escapes to explore less studied aspects, such as psychological states, cultural expressions, and everyday practices. The book features nine chapters by established and emerging scholars, analyzing how resistance manifested in the personal choices, cultural practices, and internal experiences of the enslaved. It also examines how enslaved individuals were represented in colonial legislation, fugitive slave advertisements, and cultural artefacts like clothing and theatrical performances. It is one of the first edited books to put various types of slave resistance into conversation. Citation: Charmaine A. THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC: Primary Sources - https://lnkd.in/gjzUfBdy || OA PDF: https://lnkd.in/g5QVTVbb ?? Many reference works offer compilations of critical documents covering individual liberty, local autonomy, constitutional order, and other issues that helped to shape the American political tradition. Yet few of these works are available in a form suitable for classroom use, and traditional textbooks give short shrift to these important issues. ???? The American Republic overcomes that knowledge gap by providing, in a single volume, critical, original documents revealing the character of American discourse on the nature and importance of local government, the purposes of federal union, and the role of religion and tradition in forming America’s drive for liberty. ?? By bringing together key original documents and other writings that explain cultural, religious, and historical concerns, this volume gives students, teachers, and general readers an effective way to begin examining the diversity of issues and influences that characterize American history. ???? The result unquestionably leads to a deeper and more thorough understanding of America’s political, institutional, and cultural continuity and change. #historicaldocuments #AmericanRepubic #foundingdocuments #constitution #AmericanPolitics #AmericanHistory #AmericanJeremiad #cityuponahill #constiutionalism #AmericanCharacter #AmericanFounding

What started out as a bit of fun on long drives with my kids. Long conversations on ideas, social, cultural and religious. Making up stories that we could explore and see from different angles. Religious ideas we could just ask what if it was true...... as every kid should do with religious ideas. I finally finished it. I made it into a book. A book to inspire questions, built on questions and lost forgotten perspectives. Beauty is found in the eye of the beholder. Kalos: Beauty in diversity. https://amzn.eu/d/erMLOCa

I developed this project after noticing that, except for curricula that I develop for my position as a public-school art teacher, most of my art projects are reflections of biblical texts and my faith formation. It is just an unplanned, naturally occurring dynamic in my creative experiences. As an ordained clergy woman my interests lie in social justice issues, particularly those that address individuals and families who are living marginally in this land of great wealth. Culture, arts, and faith are interrelated aspects of human expression which shape and reflect human experiences in terms of relationships, power, and justice. One’s faith formation is deeply rooted by their culture and the influence of families, institutions, practices, and their artistic expressions. As art questions, stirs, & reveals, it allows us to see the Bible in different ways based upon our own sitz em leben (place in life), and shifts how we engage in ministry within the context of contemporary things that challenge our faith.

Christian Nationalism. I first heard the phrase about two years ago when reviews starting coming in for Stephen Wolfe's "Case for Christian Nationalism" (Canon Press, 2022). Curious, I picked it up - and was appalled. Wolfe and his fellow travelers advocate for an *ethnic* concept of not only the state but also the church. The shape and boundaries of Christian communities are defined by blood and soil, not faith and creed. Worse, Wolfe asserts that his ethnocentrism is "classically Protestant" in the sense of being rooted in the theology of the sixteenth-century reformers. As a historian of that era who cares deeply about the contemporary church, I felt compelled to do my part in rebutting these false claims. This article specifically looks at Luther and Calvin and applies their insights to the Classical Education movement. I am beginning my sixth year teaching at a classical school and believe that Christian Classical Education, properly understood, is a force for good in the world - but *not* if its aims are subverted by Wolfean ethno-nationalism. This is just one article among the many publications addressing the dark temptation represented by Christian Nationalism. If it serves as a door into that wider discussion, it will have accomplished its purpose. I'm grateful to Principia for giving me the forum. PDF available here: https://lnkd.in/gMGShVr5 (Note that the Principia is published open-access and the article can be downloaded freely. I encourage you to check out the journal as a whole! It's diverse, peer-reviewed, and squarely focused on Classical Education).

BOOK OF THE WEEK: Dominion by Tom Holland No, this book is not written by the actor who plays Spider-Man (at least, I’m pretty sure they’re different people). Rather, it is a tour de force that journeys through the history of Western civilization and focuses on how the rise of Christianity dramatically reshaped the values and moral beliefs of an entire empire. While there are occasionally things in Holland’s treatment that I would take issue with (e.g., his interpretations of Scripture often miss the mark), his overall work powerfully demonstrates how so many fundamental concepts we take for granted today–such as human rights, religious liberty, and equality under the law–are rooted in the soil of the Christian worldview that eventually came to dominate the Western world. This is a lengthy but worthwhile read.

White Christians have become even less motivated to address racial injustice.?Why is this??It is driven by theology flaws. First, American slavery had an influence on White America developing a flawed theology. https://lnkd.in/g4Msad_x This essay highlights three theological flaws that have crept into American Christianity. https://lnkd.in/guTzn5a8 This essay highlights how evangelicalism intentionally ignored topics of race, unity & justice in the 1970s to attract white Americans that wanted to flee communities that were becoming racially diverse. https://lnkd.in/gVBHnjdX
