ATA Hails $200 Million Truck Parking Bill The American Trucking Associations (ATA) applauds the House Appropriations Subcommittee for including $200 million dedicated to truck parking in its latest funding bill. This initiative, championed by Congressman Steve Womack addresses the critical shortage of safe parking for truck drivers, enhancing safety and efficiency across the supply chain. ATA President and CEO Chris Spear emphasized that this investment will alleviate stress for drivers and improve road safety for all motorists. Why This Matters to Truck Drivers and Recruiters? As a third-party truck driver recruiting agency, we understand the challenges drivers face daily. A severe lack of safe, accessible parking is one of the top concerns. THE CAR BAIL - Understanding what you are, and what you are NOT, in control of, should be the first thing discussed. Training, if NOT delivered from an experienced based perspective, can sometimes overlook the small, seemingly inconsequential, considerations of what is being taught. If you are training a new SOP or an Action On, or amending existing ones, then you should be shaping that, to the environment in which you are working - there is no generic procedure: there are way too many things to consider and, one of those considerations is understanding that you are NOT in control of anything or anyone, outside your vehicle...and your SOP's/Actions On, need to "fit" that. If you are working in an urban/street environment, then you can be 100% positive that other road users and civilians, are going to fuck with you - or at least get in your way/cause you inconvenience. In traffic, other road users will be on your rear bumper - so forget about throwing a J-Turn. At stops, they will be so close to either side of your vehicle, that you may not even be able to get your own car doors fully open, to bail from. If something bad has happened and you need to bail from your vehicle, you can guarantee that other people will be bailing from their vehicles to, leaving doors open, running in all directions, or trying to drive their own vehicles out the shit, they've just driven into...
