Farmer Management-Based-Advice (FarmerMBA) Workshops in Songwe and Ruvuma, Tanzania A team of researchers from the Plant Production Systems Group - Wageningen University & Research, in collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and led by Jens Andersson, recently conducted a series of workshops aimed at training agricultural extension officers in the Songwe and Ruvuma regions of Tanzania. The focus of the training was on providing effective field management advice to farmers, specifically for maize and soybean production. The FarmerMBA app, a key tool in this initiative, helps analyze past farm management practices and offers tailored recommendations to improve management in the next season. Approximately 70 extension agents from both regions participated in the workshop, where they gained practical knowledge on how to utilize the app to guide farmers in making informed decisions regarding input usage, good agronomic practices and management. With the new season approaching, these extension agents are set to visit over 2,500 farmers across the two regions, providing personalized advice on best practices for maize and soybean production.
