Lovelight Solutions is thrilled to team up with Let There Be Light International to provide life changing solar lanterns to 1,000 families. It's amazing how much impact a $15 lantern can provide to a family living without access to electricity. Currently, families in off-grid communities in Uganda spend on average 30% of their income on light! Mostly in the form of kerosene which is unhealthy to breathe. We've been working with this fantastic org over the past 4 years as part of our commitment to donate 1% of our revenues to bring light to those that do not have access to electricity. The org is run by an amazing founder/executive director who takes no salary - maximizing the impact of donations. Your donation will fund a solar lantern for mothers that come to deliver a baby in a community health clinic (Lovelight Solutions is proud to have brought solar power to 6 of them). Most families deliver w/in the home which leads to high infant mortality.?Getting mothers to clinics where there is a lit environment saves lives. This program is also amazing for women's empowerment. Typically, everything of value is owned by the male.. now a mom comes home with a solar lantern that is extremely valuable and revolutionary for the family. Several GCPS schools are organizing a Holiday Coat Drive to collect new and gently used coats for students in need. Many of these students face challenges that make it difficult for their families to provide essential winter clothing, and your contribution can help ensure they stay warm throughout the season. Here’s how you can help: 1. Donate new or gently used coats of all sizes. 2. Monetary donations – Please contact your school of choice if monetary donations are an option. 3. Spread the word – Sharing this initiative with your network and social media can make a big difference. The goal is to distribute coats before the cold weather sets in, and we need the community’s support to make this happen. Donations can be dropped off at school by contacting parent centers as a starting point. I experienced the best fundraiser ever a few months ago. It was a win-win-win (..win..win..win) situation. My church was fundraising for a summer camp to send high-schoolers to. The high schoolers put on a "Parent's Night Out." One Saturday night they let parents drop off their kids for 3 hours. The high schoolers watched all the kids and had fun together. This was free, and they also accepted donations. It was awesome, on so many levels. So many wins Win 1- The Donor: They gave me something SO valuable, time with my spouse, rather than just asking me for money. I GLADLY donated. Win 2- The Recipient: The high schoolers gave of their own time and effort. They participated and contributed, and this creates ownership. Win 3- The Values: This is 100% aligned with the values the church is trying to foster. Intergenerational relationships. Generosity. Community. Trust. Attention to time building strong marriages. If we can creatively build this sort of infinite win situation into our non profits and businesses, we'll have done well.

Part of Orton-Gillingham training includes a dysgrpahia simulation. Many educators are never even taught about dysgraphia so this simulation is not only educating them about this challenge that many students struggle with but it is also incredibly powerful in informing how they approach students who struggle with handwriting and getting their thoughts on paper. My personal approach to philanthropy is to automate. I set up recurring monthly donations and increase the amount or add new charities as I am able. One time donations then become "bonus giving". As the net worth of millennials grows, so too does their desire to give back to the causes they care about. For many, philanthropy is a new endeavor.
