The most under taught skill there is …… NETWORKING. As a business owner, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about numbers, spreadsheets, or strategies—it’s about connections. Networking has been one of the most transformative tools in my journey so far . Here’s why: ??Opportunities You Can’t Google Some of the best opportunities I’ve come across didn’t come from a search engine; they came from a conversation. Whether it’s a new client, a speaking engagement, or even a chance to collaborate, networking has opened doors I didn’t even know existed. ??Learning from Others When you connect with others, you’re tapping into a goldmine of experience and knowledge. From hearing about challenges they’ve overcome to gaining insights into industries outside your own, every conversation adds value. ??Building Your Reputation People do business with those they know, like, and trust. And that’s a fact. Networking helps you establish that trust by showing up, sharing your expertise, and being genuinely interested in others. ??Support During Tough Times You don’t alway have to network for clients. The entrepreneurial journey can be lonely. Having a network means having a circle of people who get it—and who are there to encourage you when things feel overwhelming. Networking isn’t about handing out business cards or collecting LinkedIn connections. It’s about building genuine relationships that are mutually beneficial. So, here’s a thought: What’s one event, coffee meeting, or LinkedIn message you could send this week to expand your network? The best connections often start with a simple conversation. I will make it easy for you ?? I’m a guest speaker this wednesday at the “close your business in 2024 in a buzz of success” event at The HIVE - Supportive workspace for women Here’s the link if you fancy coming along for a chat ??

Why is networking with right people so amazing? I used to follow a simple routine: go to the office, work hard, and head home. But whenever I faced challenges, I felt stuck, I didn’t have anyone to turn to for advice or guidance because I hadn’t built a network of peers or mentors. That all changed the day I attended an ICPAU networking event. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I met incredible people who not only became my friends but also my mentors. Now, when I encounter challenges, I don’t struggle alone. I have a trusted circle I can lean on, and they can lean on me too. And surely I am where am because I have met people better than me, in what I do. The truth is, none of us knows everything, but together, we can achieve so much more. Accounting isn’t just about sitting in the office and balancing books, it’s about learning, growing, and sharing knowledge. Meeting others in the same field opens doors to new ideas, improved efficiency, and invaluable corrections that elevate your work. That’s why I’m excited to invite you to our Finance Networking Meeting on January 30, 2025. It’s more than an event. it’s an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and create a network of support for your career journey. Join us, and let’s build a stronger accounting community together.

On 13th June we will be running the UK's first eCommerce conference in central London. This will involve getting 250+ UK eCommerce professionals in the same room to discuss what matters to them. No keynote speeches. Instead, an entire day of collaborative learning and networking with your peers. *How unconferences work* At the start of the day, we will gather and anyone can pitch an idea for a discussion on an eCommerce-related topic. The group will then democratically vote on the ideas, and the most popular ones will be selected for in-depth discussions. This is your chance to have a real say in the topics that matter to you. **Survival guide 1. Don't be nervous Although unconferences can seem a little nerve-racking at first, try not to be nervous. You won't be the only person new to an unconference that day, so try not to feel like you are a fish out of water. 2. Think of ideas before you arrive Don't leave it to the last moment to start thinking about what sessions you want to propose. Think about what kind of topics you would like to propose before the event kicks off. 3. Network, networks, network One of the greatest aspects of an unconference is the social element. This opens up a good opportunity to meet new people, share and learn new ideas, and grow your social and professional circles. Be brave! If you hear a conversation you would like to join, introduce yourself and get stuck in. 4. Take notes A day at an unconference can result in a huge number of interesting conversations and sessions. With so much content, it can sometimes be easy to forget or miss the key points. Take as many notes as you can! 5. Ask questions Remember, there are no silly questions. In many cases, a question that may seem simple to you uncovers some really interesting concepts and perspectives.
