Soon after winning the 2024 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, MIT economists Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson, PhD ’89, took part in a livestreamed press conference with MIT President Sally Kornbluth. Much of the discussion centered on the pair’s research, but an MIT student’s question about the impact teaching has had on their research particularly animated Johnson, who is the Ronald A. Kurtz (1954) Professor of Entrepreneurship at MIT Sloan. “Sometimes, people say research and teaching can be disassociated, including in business schools. That’s not been my experience at all at MIT. For me, they’re very deeply intertwined,” said Johnson.

?? Exciting news! GTSC was recently featured in Dr. Randolph Hall’s newly published book, "Managing Innovation Inside Universities: Systematic Change for Research, Service, and Learning". Dr. Hall is a Dean's Professor at the University of Southern California. ? ?? The chapter titled "Strategic Innovation: Georgia Tech", highlights Georgia Tech's strategic plan and its strong emphasis on innovation, both as an "explicit strategy" and as "organic in the sense that innovation is promoted through the collective energies of student, faculty, and staff who participated in strategic planning" (p. 120). ? ?? In particular, Dr. Hall noted how Georgia Tech "has taken a proactive approach via its Strategic Consulting team, established in 2013 to implement strategy, streamline organizations, and increase effectiveness and efficiency" (p. 120). Our leadership, Sonia Alvarez-Robinson PhD and Juana Cunningham, were also cited as they brought up examples of our practice. ? ?? I am not yet a Dr. Yes, but do I feel like one? Of course, after getting two nominations in two years for honorary doctorate degree, I should feel like one. Hello, it's not about the title now, it's about the vision. The other day I talked about the gift of men and how vision is the only sustainable bait to getting people commit to you without feeling bad. The gut to not panic after my inability to claim one at least of the two nominations, speaks volume of my believe in the fact that, as long as I remain honest living a visionary life, honours will keep coming. Recently, the MIT Free Speech Alliance released a comprehensiv set of recommendations on how MIT can improve its policies and overall institutional culture on free expression. The recommendations can be read in full on our website at the link below. We provide MIT with five primary recommendations, beginning with adopting a policy of institutional neutrality such as that outlined in the University of Chicago's Kalven report. We also encourage MIT to, among other things, provide increased education on free expression and viewpoint diversity not only to students, but to administrators as well. We also make a series of secondary recommendations for MIT to consider, and provide an analysis of the excellent work done by MIT's Ad Hoc Working Group on Free Expressions, whose ten recommendations we heartily endorse, while suggesting some ways their impact may be amplified or their implementation improved. ???? The Berlin Wall tells a fascinating story through its art: On the West side, vibrant drawings and messages of protest, freedom, and hope covered the wall. On the East, it remained bare and guarded, a stark and silent symbol of control. This contrast reflects how what we write or draw often reveals the spirit and intentions of those who create it. Today, in a Digital Transformation session at the CATóLICA-LISBON | Executive Education General Management Program, I created my own ‘wall.’ The sketches and diagrams on the board capture the ambition, challenges, and vision of transformation we discussed. I am deeply flattered to have been chosen as a delegate for Princeton's 50th BusinessToday International Conference. The IC is a conference to connect undergraduate students with executives, in order to offer the chance to learn from and network with high achieving individuals. Despite attending virtually, I still got to know my fellow delegates well and got to talk to some of the speakers. My Key Takeaways: 1. Never stop learning - Even after you graduate, the learning doesn't stop. New technologies and new jobs require you to constantly be on your feet 2. Resilience in hard times - Things may not go the way you want, but as you climb your way to greatness, you have to keep moving 3. Relationship between luck/hard work - Luck gets you in the door, talent keeps you there and shows you the other side 4. Talk to people - These executives learned what problems to solve and how to solve them by talking to their peers or their subordinates 5. AI and a new world - AI is coming, it will change everything, and knowing how to use it and its challenges will ensure you don't fall behind (see point one!) 6. Find what is you - We all have unique talents and tastes, finding the perfect niche that fits you will give you a great advantage in that niche over everyone else 6a. Scarcity = Value - Your perfect niche will allow you to give yourself more value to an employer or give your business more value to customers in that niche. Special shout out to Bill Schlough, CIO at The Giants, and Michael Purcell, CFO at Established. Your respective journeys and the wisdom that emerged will remain with me throughout my whole career!

CfP – The 3rd World Congress of Business History, organized by the Business History Society of Japan, the Canadian Business History Association, the Business History Conference, and the European Business History Association, will be held in Toronto, Canada, from July 27 to 31, 2026. ? Business History has evolved significantly, embracing diverse research topics and methods. Notable trends include the adoption of alternative historical approaches, quantitative methods, and the "cultural turn," along with the institutionalization and internationalization of the field. The program committee invites contributions from scholars at all career stages on the theme "Global Connections/Diverse Directions: Building Bridges across Business Histories." The submission deadline is December 1, 2025. Submissions can include individual papers, thematic panels (3–5 papers), multi-session tracks, or alternative formats such as workshops, roundtable discussions, debates, and poster presentations.
