IEN is closed today in observance of Juneteenth, which commemorates the anniversary of the day in 1865 when a Union general read aloud Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation to enslaved African Americans at a slave labor camp in Texas. More than 250,000 people in Texas heard this announcement 2? years late, as the state was among those that resisted the abolishment of slavery. Juneteenth is a recognition of the promise of emancipation and the arduous road that African Americans have had to travel to make true freedom a reality--a journey that continues to this day. ???? Commemorating Juneteenth because it matters...???? One of many reasons today’s celebration of Juneteenth is so important would be how ???????? ???? ???? ???? ???????? ?????????? ?????? ???? ???? ?????? ????????. Each year on June 19th, Americans commemorate the day when Major General Gordon Granger led Union soldiers into Galveston, Texas, where they finally enforced the news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Despite how many say the emancipation proclamation ended slavery on January 1, 1863, it wasn't until this date, two years later, that American troops were able to make their way through Texas' tricky terrain and, thus, the last of the enslaved people were truly freed. Although it began in 1866 as a political rally to give voting instructions to the Black community, ???????????????????? ???? ?????? ?????????????????????? ???? ?????? ???????????????????????? ???? ?????? ??????????????'?? ???????? ?????????????????? ???????????????? ????????????. On this date, we celebrate progress. As the fight against systemic racism in America continues, this #Juneteenth holiday carries immense significance for freedom and equality. It is not black versus white but everyone versus racism; together, we can make great strides forward. Happy Juneteenth, a day of recognition, restoration and celebration! Let's reflect on Black Americans' activism and #productivity, pushing our nation toward its founding ideals. #OrganizeForSuccess #PersonalizedProductivity #GetOrganized #MakeEveryMinuteMatter #TogetherEveryoneAchievesMore

Juneteenth is…. ? A commemorative holiday honoring the anniversary of the freedom granted to enslaved African Americans. ? A significant date that took many years to be acknowledged on a national level. ? Celebrated differently by people who identify as Black. Juneteenth is Not… ??A replacement for Black History Month. ?? Commemorated the same way by every person who identifies as Black (Remember: Some enslaved people were still not free on this date). ??A time for people outside of the community to voice their opinions and/or judgements. ?? Commemorate accordingly. I see so many brands and businesses struggle with how to celebrate this holiday respectfully and responsibly. ?? Hot tip I share with all of my clients: Think about your strategies for moments of celebration proactively, not reactively! A plan is always better than a scramble.
