At the end of last year, I was invited to give the closing Capstone talk to IEEE Vis 2023 ( https://lnkd.in/gem8HgE3 ). Over the weekend I edited together a video of that presentation “All Over the Map”, from the video of the closing session (publicly available thanks to the IEEE Vis team https://lnkd.in/gCeZeaMn ). From the talk abstract: “This capstone uses the map as a lens to reflect on essential research themes in #GIScience, and on the nature of interdisciplinary research into geovisualization. The analysis identifies five features of geographic information, including its structure, dynamism, uncertainty, and its intimate connection with human cognition, that directly impact on mapping and #geovisualization.” Thanks again to the IEEE Vis 2023 organisers Sarah Goodwin, Tim Dwyer, Michael Wybrow for the invite. This work represents a significant leap forward in the use of generative models for environmental modeling, specifically in predicting scenes and events. ?? Title: "Spatial-Temporal Augmented Adaptation via Cycle-Consistent Adversarial Network: An Application in Streamflow Prediction" ?? Collaboration: A big shout-out to my advisor Professor Xiaowei Jia, whose insights and expertise were invaluable throughout this research journey. ?? About the Research: In this study, we've taken cycle-consistent adversarial networks to new heights. By leveraging time series image sequences, our model learns to adapt images across diverse domains controlled by temporal variations. This technique allows us to accurately model weather impacts and transfer essential data from richly labeled domains to those with sparse labels, significantly enhancing prediction. ??
