Now that the Second Training School has successfully ended, let's resume the 3-minute thesis series. In this episode, Carlos Neves explains his PhD project. ?? Ice buildup changes the shape of the aircraft, posing a serious safety risk if not detected in time. ???Detecting ice on rotating blades like helicopter rotors and propellers is tough, as placing sensors there isn’t practical. That’s why Carlos investigates how changes in performance, noise, and vibrations can reveal ice accretion. ??? ?? ?? The goal of his PhD, carried out at AerospacePoliMi at Politecnico di Milano, école Polytechnique, and terraXcube, is to develop smart models that help pilots detect ice in real-time, making flights safer. ????? ? #TRACES_DNJD #MSCA #DNJD EU Science, Research and Innovation?? #science4all #ScienceCommunication #3MT

?? Advent Calendar 2024: Day 19 – Simplifying Decision-Making ?? Sometimes, the most impactful innovations come from simplifying the complex. ? "We innovate by simplifying the decision-making, reducing reliance on remote support, and enhancing situational awareness, creating a step-change in operational efficiency." – Alexey Pavlov, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), DrillFeel Today’s quote from Alexey reminds us that innovation isn’t always about adding layers—it’s about removing barriers. By simplifying decision-making and improving situational awareness, we can create meaningful improvements in operational efficiency and productivity. Let this insight inspire us to seek clarity in our processes and embrace simplicity as a pathway to innovation together with the NTNU Faculty of Engineering. ? Explore today’s insight and more: https://lnkd.in/dvCafQ3j The countdown continues—check back tomorrow for another spark of inspiration to ignite your creativity! #InnovationAdventCalendar #LetsTalkInnovation #FridayTalks #IV #NTNU #SimplifyToInnovate #OperationalEfficiency #InnovationLeadership

Thrilled to share that I’ll be presenting our work on “Influential Explanatory Functions for Steel Wide-Flange Columns under Far-Field Detonations” co-authored with Hezi Y. Grisaro, PhD at the 19th International Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures (ISIEMS - 2024) in Bonn, Germany! ?????. This work focuses on identifying the influential structural parameters of wide-flange steel columns subjected to blast loading, combined with the effects of axial loads, using probabilistic analysis. It aims to provide deeper insights into structural behavior under extreme conditions and contribute to more reliable and efficient design methods. This opportunity is exceptional for me. Back in 2022, I was eager to attend another conference in Germany. Still, due to the unavailability of visa appointment slots, I could not secure my visa and, unfortunately, missed the event. It was a disappointing setback, but perseverance and determination kept me moving forward. Now, in 2024, I’m excited to finally take this significant step and present my research on an international stage. To my fellow attendees: I’m looking forward to engaging in technical discussions, collaborative research, and exploring industrial partnerships. Let’s connect and exchange ideas to drive innovation in structural engineering and beyond! See you in Bonn! Let’s make it impactful. ?? Super thrilled to share that I've been elected as the Chair of IEEE RIT Computer Society and the Head of S.T.A.R.D.U.ST_RIT, a student-led space club at Ramaiah Institute of Technology. Reflecting on my journey, as a curious first-year undergrad, I took a leap of faith and joined just two clubs—IEEE CS as an Execom member to explore the world of computing and research, and S.T.A.R.D.U.ST in the Avionics domain to fuel my passion for aerospace. Both of these clubs have been instrumental in my journey until now, fuelling the creation of good projects and research papers and have also given me wonderful opportunities to network with eminent personalities. The value of building strong networks in life cannot be overstated. While technical expertise is undoubtedly crucial, surrounding yourself with the right people and fostering meaningful connections is just as essential—like the perfect seasoning that brings an Italian dish to life. Being an engineer is about more than just writing impeccable code. It’s about being approachable, engaging, and staying attuned to the ever-evolving world of technology. Cultivating the habit of reading about emerging advancements, even when they seem complex at first glance, opens doors to new ideas and prepares you for the future. #LeadershipJourney #IEEECS #STARDUST #StudentLeadership #EngineeringLeadership #NetworkingMatters #ProfessionalGrowth #TechCommunity #BuildingConnections #AerospaceEngineering #Avionics #ComputerScience #SpaceTech #EmergingTechnologies #STEM #Innovation #Technology #FutureEngineers #UndergraduateLeadership
