????FREE ???? Robotics STEM design event For students in 2nd to 8th grade (or children 8-16 years old). This event is organized as part of the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN, https://lnkd.in/gc78DPTU) We will hold 1-hour sessions of an interactive robot design activity. This hands-on learning activity will use Smart Motors (https://lnkd.in/gqFrWuFZ), small electronic components that include an LCD, sensors, and a motor, to provide an example of robot control and Al, involving sensing, thinking, and acting. Participating students will get to work with experienced roboticists to build their own robot that they can take home. Younger students will be assisted by volunteers. This event is free, registration is required; a limited number of grants to support transportation are available, and the application process is part of registration. We can accommodate a total of 300 students across all sessions; registration is first-come, first-served. When we gave this problem to kids as young as 8 years, some of them came up with this solution on their own. A Storm alert system - without any coding - just simple electronic circuit - and no battery at all. - Problem solving with hands-on learning - STEM concepts such motor as a generator, parallel circuits, voltage & current, anode & cathode, energy conversion, sources of energy, etc. This may not be the final commercial solution, and that is not our objective. > We want children to develop their skills, not just build projects. > We want them to build Robots, not become Robots. For the second consecutive year, I am offering the BCI-based robot control project for the?Health and Engineering Major's students at the EPF Engineering School. A special team made me so proud with this fabulous achievement that I'm sharing with you. 100% autonomous, the students proposed a mignature of an electric wheelchair controlled solely using brain and muscular electrical signals (EEG & EMG). Using a GUI and EEG sensors placed on the prefrontal lobe, the user chooses the direction of the robot by moving her/his eyes. For an emergency stop, the user uses the muscular contraction of her/his arm. Developed from scratch, this project allowed engineering students to validate their knowledge in : - acquiring and processing the EEG & EMG signals (using Bitalino) - graphical and multi-threading programming in Python - transport of EEG & EMG data with lightweight network protocols - robotics programming I take the opportunity of this Linkedin post to recommend the engineering students team who worked on this achievement : Chloé Husson-Roumec, Hugo Lacombe, Quitterie Lartigue and Scott Fullagar. We are happy to share our new publication entitled "Using RoblockLLy in the Classroom: Bridging the Gap in Computer Science Education Through Robotics Simulation". RoblockLLy is an Educational Robotics simulator designed for primary and secondary school students whose goal is to increase their interest in STEM. This free tool is available through a web browser and does not need a complex installation or specific hardware requirements. The results obtained during the research performed shows that students perceived RoblockLLy as a novel and interesting tool. The ratings for usability were predominantly positive, although a few students indicated a preference for expert assistance. The overall rating of the user experience was positive as well, yet notable differences in attitudes toward motivation and usability were observed between genders.
