Great news for our Digital Manufacturing and Surface Engineering (#DMS) group! ?? ?? Our Asst. Prof. Ashish Ganvir has been awarded a prestigious Academy Research Fellowship by the Research Council of Finland | Suomen Akatemia. The application was ranked 1st in the review panel as an exemplary proposal. ?? This four-year fellowship, with a total project budget of over €1 million, will support his groundbreaking research project, #SOLACE. The research project SOLACE, led by Assistant Professor Ashish Ganvir, is a significant step towards sustainable and green fuel-powered engines. It focuses on advancing #hydrogen- and #ammonia-powered engines for various applications, including automotive, space, marine, and aerospace. A key challenge that will be addressed is combating moisture generated during the combustion of hydrogen and ammonia, which threatens engine performance. To overcome this, his research group will develop revolutionary Thermal Environmental Barrier Coatings (#TEBCs) using advanced digital manufacturing technologies such as #laser-based digital manufacturing and thermal spray. This innovative research has the potential to reshape the future of thermal and environmental barrier coatings, propelling us toward a sustainable future with green fuel-powered engines. According to Honorary Doctor, Professor Tim Baines, servitisation provides companies with a competitive advantage by creating value for customers. ???? ? – Production is often standardised and can be moved to where production costs are lowest. That's why Western manufacturing companies should focus on advanced services that will benefit their customers and help them win against the competition, says Professor Baines. ? Professor Tim Baines is one of the world's leading and most cited researchers on servitisation. He recently received an honorary doctorate from the University of Vaasa. Excited to announce my completion of AUA joint lecture series titled: Sustainable Materials for Tomorrow hosted by the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA). I was proud to be the only student nominated from the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering at UAEU to attend these exclusive lectures. The series consisted of 15 lectures over 2 months held by top professors and researchers in AUA universities on advanced sustainable materials that are promising for the future, covering the latest research on them, their fabrication and sustainable disposal/recycling technologies, and their applications. Then, it ended by submission of 2 essays on the lectured topics for graduation. Some of the topics discussed were carbon nanomaterials, recycling of rare metals, nanogenerators and piezoelectric materials for energy generation, and innovative technologies for recycling and disposing textiles and fibers like plasma and supercritical fluid technologies. All in all, It was an eye-opening experience to learn directly from the top scientists in this field. I am thankful to have been able to dive deeply into cutting-edge material research and sneak a look into the next revolutions in sustainability through materials. This experience kept me up to date with the upcoming materials and their potential applications. Also, it enhanced my skills at spotting promising sustainable materials and technologies and what characteristics make them best suitable for which application. Finally, it reinforced the essentiality of materials for the sustainablity of any application: Any improvement on the sustainability of a material is an improvement to the sustainability of all its applications. #sustainability

I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to present our paper in the international conference on “Environmental Design, Material Science, and Engineering Technologies (EDMSET)” organised by IEREK Conferences and hosted by Abu Dhabi University (Dubai Campus), University of Sharjah, and Instituto Marangoni, and held in Dubai, April 2024. Co-authered by Dr. Mohamed Abdallah, PhD, PEng, Dr. Abrar Inayat, and Prof. A. Shanableh. The study reviewed the articles related to the interaction of the substrate’s organic composition in the anaerobic digestion (AD) process. The review covers the influence of lipids/carbohydrates/proteins (LCP) on the AD process, the optimal LCP ratios, potential inhibitors, and the three main kinetic models for methane production. The findings provide valuable insights toward optimizing the AD process.
