Yesterday, Ben Davenport had the privilege of sitting on a panel for the Boise State Competivness Conversation. The conversation focused on power and securing inovation, like semiconductors, clean energy, advanced nuclear, and cyber security. What a great opportunity to share our story! Thank you to the organizers for putting together a program to discuss these important issues! Council on Competitiveness Boise State University Idaho National Laboratory

Separating Corporate and Industrial networks at a nuclear site was one of my projects a number of years ago before cyber threats were a 'thing'. This is an interesting paper. Human injection of threats have always been thought of as the biggest threat to systems. Stopping it getting onto the system must always be the first line of defence, whether it be from software updates from manufacturers or code changes by staff. Watching with interest. https://lnkd.in/g3Vw9awU

AI is going Nuclear. A basic text response from these AI models can consume enough energy to power a 10-watt LED bulb for an hour. In comparison, a typical Google search can consume electricity equivalent to powering a 10-watt LED bulb for about two minutes. https://hubs.li/Q02V6pP40 #cybersecurity #cyber #ai #datasecurity #infosec

#cybersecurity #systemsengineering I recently joined an Executive Advisory Board (EAB) for an improv team at Sandia National Labs charged with solving a wicked problem. (For those unfamiliar with the concept of a wicked problem, it is one for which there is no absolute solution, but a solemn responsibility on the problem solver to pursue a goal of continuous improvement.) Simply stated, the problem is to provide methods to achieve empirical, measurable?Digital Assurance?for High Consequence Systems?(such as nuclear weapons, hypersonics, space, and critical infrastructure). For more detail, see?https://lnkd.in/eVYW7sQF. Coincident with the problem definition is the recognition that it is a hard, though not exactly wicked, problem to integrate digital security in early phases of systems engineering. There are various reasons that problem is hard, e.g. the speed at which digital technology changes, the lack of classification standards for digital components, and unstated assumptions that software can be built to accommodate functional capabilities of physical components. Given that there is not a plethora of research in this field, Sandia is attempting to partner with any and all researchers interested and capable of lending a hand with both the wicked and hard problems (academic, industry and/or government). If you are interested in learning more, please feel free to ask a question or make a comment on this post, or contact the Mission Campaign directly at?[email protected].

Al McBride: 4 Years of G4S Expertise When asked about the future of the nuclear field, Alistair says it is "undergoing a global renaissance, with new manufacturers and operators looking to enter the market in the next decade. This creates competition which stimulates innovation. Operators will be looking for innovative ways to reduce their lifetime costs and increase efficiency across all their areas, including security. Security will need to keep ahead of this innovation curve and explore novel technologies, which may increase capabilities and reduce costs." Co-Founder/CEO at Frontier Foundry | Today was once the unimaginable future - Join us in solving the hardest problems with the most advanced technologies
As we think about the next few years, framing #quantumcomputing?is a critical step needed. Far too often (even with the ongoing discussions around #AI) we end up playing catch up in regulatory, policy and organizational maturation of governance of these new technologies. Take a look at a potential early path forward!
