It seems that many people have their own plans for my #welding education. Some are eager to get me into any related job now, while others suggest I take on the burden of buying a vehicle to drive into the city on a daily five-plus-hour round trip for a job that pays up to $18/hour. When I’m asked what I want to do with welding, I answer simply, "I want to weld." Yet, that answer seems to fall flat with most. I understand the traditional path—learn a #trade, get a steady job, buy a house, have a family, and repeat the cycle. For many, that brings security and fulfillment. I respect that. But that’s not the vision I have for myself. I'm in the process of developing new business ventures, not the least of which is to design and build bespoke strength training and performance apparatuses. This won’t follow the conventional business model with burdensome overhead, etc. We might build to order, license designs, or only use the equipment in our own training facilities. My path is not traditional, and neither is my relationship with welding. I’m not drawn to the promises of high-paying careers like #pipeline welding or #underwater welding. Sure, I might have a #Fronius machine one day, but I don’t see myself owning mobile welding rig. When people ask, "Don’t you want to be a #welder?" my answer is simple: I just want to weld. To make it even clearer: I want enjoy fresh spinach, but I don’t want to become a #farmer. I want to enjoy fresh steaks, but I don’t want to become a #rancher. I want to enjoy #sailing around #Africa on a 60-foot #Catamaran, but I don’t want to become a #shipbuilder. One of our sales staff recently received a call from an apprentice plumber who was on site trying to weld an electrofusion fitting. The?apprentice didn’t understand how to turn on the welding machine, nor did he have rotary peeling equipment or pipe clamps. ? He was working on a PE gas line.? ? The young apprentice was simply following his boss's direction but unfortunately this lack of awareness of electrofusion basics is common.? ? Page 14 of the Australian Plumbing and Drainage Standard AS/NZS 3500.1.2018 Water Services references AS/NZS 2033 Design and installation of polyolefin pipe systems. AS/NZS 2033 stipulates electrofusion is performed by certified people. In Australia this means PMBWELD302E. Note PIPA's POP001 Electrofusion Installation Guideline is referenced as the installation guideline. ? Long story short, installers who do not follow the standards are likely to compromise their insurance and expose themselves?to significant downstream risk should problems arise from poorly installed welds.

Steve Fearnehough I have replied here, I hope you don’t mind. To keep Jack Bond CEng MICE post separated from a great discussion. I agree with you. I would rather grow organically than risk taking on scaffolders, especially when the card the carry doesn’t make the skill set. As you know the amount of investment in training a scaffolder to high level costs a fortune, only to be tempted by another firm for an extra ￡40 a week the loyalty is not there, then the other companies don’t bother with all the safety and just get on with it. However like all firms, at time to time we have all needed extra hands ?? and it will always be that way. My problem was that not all carded scaffolders are the same, and advanced scaffolders with 8 years experience on house building and commercial properties, is completely different to a scaffolders from petro chemical, offshore and bridges with the same amount of experience. Not all contractors in the NASC - National Access and Scaffolding Confederation are the same, the badge doesn’t mean your capable it means you are compliant. Who audits the auditor? The companies skill set is flawed by the skill set of the scaffolders they employ or the team of scaffolders have more skill than the companies capabilities. It’s crazy to think a career path can operate this way. Having spent time with lots of scaffolders and scaffolding contractors in my career in this country and from companies from around the world through conversations on here and events like ScaffChamp | BSA - Baltic Scaffolders Association I believe there is a massive career hole that needs filling, I believe we can all play apart in to get closer to a global community of scaffolders and recognised training with a better career path, all roles are vital in a scaffolding, so why loose credibility half way up the ladder? “Together As One” #scaffolders #scaffolding #scaffold #scaffoldingservices #scaffoldingdesign

Dave's latest trainees have had the opportunity to see first hand how we use tube expanders for enlarging the ends of firetubes to ensure a tight fit within the tube sheet. This procedure is essential for maintaining the efficiency and safety of our boilers.
