Day 5/31 of learning Spline and (try to ??) post daily results. Today I've taken one of the tutorials on the Spline platform. ?? Understanding cube modeling is fundamental in learning 3D modeling as it lays the groundwork for mastering essential techniques and principles in creating intricate shapes and structures. I will keep having some more fun with interactions and playful things related to this shape which is so basic yet so fun and I can do so much with it. At our AAEEBL - Association for Authentic, Experiential, and Evidence-Based Learning #ePortfolio Retreat yesterday, Leticia Britos Cavagnaro, PhD, introduced us to Protobot. It's a prototyping bot that can generate approx. 47,000 weird, funny, hilarious, and (slightly) strange ideas that you or your team then needs to build, act out, or sketch. After a very intense workshop week last week - I am taking this week to catch up on some learning... including the Design Sprint 2024 refresh by Jake Knapp, hosted by AJ&Smart . I took a lot of things away but to keep things short here, I just wanted to share a very nice metaphor which stuck with me: Voltron vs Frankenstein('s monster). Voltron is a kind of super-robot, made from a lot of smaller robots. When facing a big challenge, the smaller robots combine to become more powerful then the sum of their parts. Frankenstein's monster on the other hand, is patched together from lots of pieces and crudely stitched together. The monster kind of hangs together... This metaphor came up when Jake was asked whether he let design sprint participants vote on aspects of a sketch / proposal which they liked and then recombine them into a new idea or whether they had to vote on a sketch / proposal in its entirety. His answer: they vote for the full sketch / proposal and that is taken forward as the basis for further iterations. Why? Because a lot of thought goes into making a concept coherent and it usually does the group a disservice to patch ideas together. Groups can add additional ideas later if they genuinely match the concept, but they take forward a concept as a starting point. In short: * Voltron mode is starting with a coherent concept or proposal and using the brains in the room to add to it. * Frankenstein mode is adding bits together that don't make coherent sense.
