The Role of the Board During Leadership Transitions - by Valtas Group In too many cases, a nonprofit board’s approach to leadership turnover is hectic, not well thought out or planned, reactive instead of proactive. Most often, the board is group of passionate, well-meaning volunteers who are now faced with the single most important role they will have: selecting a new leader. How the board navigates the transition will directly impact the future and potential viability of the organization. https://hubs.ly/Q02dXxP60 #cfoselections

Every business publication, from the Harvard Business Review on down, defines the CEO as being accountable for the performance and results of their company by ensuring the business operates efficiently and meets its goals. The necessary traits of a good CEO include vision, critical thinking skills, decisiveness, experience, trustworthiness, passion, and inspiration. Those CEOs who excel in the role define, build, and protect their organization's culture. A formal definition of 'organizational culture' is the underlying beliefs, assumptions, values, and ways of interacting that contribute to an organization's unique social and psychological environment. Culture is always top-down, never bottom-up. Culture will encourage personal and professional growth, or it will kill it. Culture is an organization's 'secret sauce' or a poison pill. It's the CEO who, ultimately, defines and cultivates the company's culture. The bottom line is that a winning culture allows an organization to attract and retain the best and brightest people. Period. Ohio Living's culture is alive and thriving and demonstrated daily through our team members' compassion, community, and faith in our mission and one another. That is what best defines our CEO, Larry Gumina, and the legacy he is building at Ohio Living!
Did you know that Ohio Living has only had seven Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) in its 100+ year history? Each leader has served a minimum of ten years, with two having tenures of 19 years. Our current CEO has been with the organization since 2011! This leadership longevity is a testament to the integrity and sincerity of the officers, as well as their commitment to our organization’s mission.

Closing a chapter on a leadership journey is never easy. It’s tough to step back after pouring so much passion, energy, and heart into something and to let others take the baton. Leadership isn’t just about the time spent or the goals achieved; it’s about the relationships built, the challenges faced, and the growth experienced along the way. While it’s hard to say goodbye to Engage Dallas, I’m grateful for every lesson learned and every person who has been part of this journey. Though this chapter is ending, the impact will continue to shape my path forward. Here’s to new beginnings and carrying the experiences with me into the next adventure. #Leadership #Community #EngageDallas #DallasTx #Leadership #Growth #NewBeginnings
