There is more to the concept of Thirty30 Tennis and Padel than just about creating shorter matches. Please let me explain. There are 4 Thirty30 'length of game' options: - Thirty30 - The sudden-death 'Golden Point' (GP) is NOT used - Thirty30+ (BRONZE Deuce) - The GP is played after the 3rd Deuce - Thirty30+ (SILVER Deuce) - The GP is played after the 2nd Deuce - Thirty30+ (GOLDEN Deuce) - The GP is played after the 1st Deuce (This is extremely quick!) Please find below a comparison between (1) A Conventional / Traditional 'Golden Point' Game and (2) A Thirty30+ BRONZE Deuce Game: (1) Conventional 'Golden Point' (GP) Game - SHORTEST game possible = 4 points e.g.: 0-0, 15-0, 30-0, 40-0, Game - LONGEST game possible = 7 points e.g.: 0-0, 15-0, 15-15, 30-15, 30-30, 40-30, 40-40 (GP), Game Worth noting is that there are NO ADVANTAGE points played at all here, which in my opinion is not the best - not very exciting! (2) Thirty30+ BRONZE Deuce 'Golden Point' (GP) Game - SHORTEST game possible = 2 points e.g.: 30-30, 40-30, Game - LONGEST game possible = 7 points e.g.: 30-30, 40-30, 40-40#1, Ad, 40-40#2, Ad, 40-40#3 (GP), Game There are more pivotal points played using Thirty30+, providing more jeopardy and more exciting matches. Thirty30 also provides the option of playing best-of-5 sets (4 Tie-Break Sets + 1 Advantage Set) 'Grand Slam' matches which would be very unique.This is not feasible using conventional scoring. Thirty30 does not require to use the 3rd set 10-Point (Super) Match Tie-Break to shorten matches. The Match Tie-Break is not the best way to decide a hard fought close match as it is basically a 10-minute shoot-out where luck can be involved. The final set of a Thirty30 match is an Advantage Set (lead by 2 games) with no requirement for a Tie-Break and is much fairer. The Premier Padel Tour do not currently use the Golden Point which can lead to seemingly never ending Deuce / Ad games which is not great. It will be interesting to see if the PPT decide to use the Golden Point in the future as it appears that some of their matches are becoming fairly lengthy. I did some analysis on the 2024 Hexagon Cup matches and found that on average a Tie-Break Set lasted 44 minutes when using the Golden Point and a 3 set Match lasted 98 minutes on average when using the 3rd set deciding Match Tie-Break (MTB). This is quite long for a single Set and a 2-sets + MTB Match - not great for TV. To summarise. Conventional scoring using the Golden Point and conventional 'change of ends' is pedestrian paced with a real lack of 'big points' played. Thirty30 provides greater flexibility in the length of matches and produces shorter faster-paced 'bite-size' nuggets of action with many more 'big points' where the game score ticks over more quickly and there are less 'change of ends' per set by a factor of 2 leading to more intense action for everyone involved.
