A pioneering partnership between the University of Edinburgh, the University of Dundee and the Forth and Tay Offshore Cluster has been boosted by a ￡2.5 million innovation funding award from UK Research and Innovation.

I had the privilege of participating in a panel session organized by City of Prince George to celebrate the completion of Arbios Biotech's cutting-edge R&D facility in Prince George, the first of its kind in the region. This remarkable facility is set to revolutionize the industry, and I’m thrilled that Northern Analytical Lab Services at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) facility at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is closely connected to its future operations. At UNBC, we are committed to fostering innovation and supporting local industries. Our professors, graduate students, postdocs, and state-of-the-art labs are already contributing to the groundbreaking work Arbios Biotech and other local industries are doing. This partnership exemplifies how collaboration between academia and industry can drive technological advancements while creating opportunities for highly qualified personnel. As I shared during the panel: ?? Collaboration is essential. In today’s world, R&D costs are rising, and partnerships like this one are critical for success on both sides. ?? Investing in local talent is key. For industries to thrive, they must engage with and invest in local, highly-educated professionals. ?? UNBC is vital to the community. Our influence in Prince George’s industrial base is profound, and partnerships like these ensure that we continue to serve and grow together. A big thank you to Arbios for recognizing the value of collaboration with UNBC and for leveraging our lab facilities as they advance their R&D efforts. WMU is pleased to enter an Academic Partnership with the M?rsk Mc-Kinney M?ller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS), a not-for-profit research and development center was established in 2020 to guide and accelerate decarbonization of the global maritime industry. The partnership is intended to strengthen collaboration between scientists at the Center and academic researchers at four partner institutions that in addition to WMU include the University of Michigan, Maritime Research Alliance, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The goal of the partnerships is to increase transparency and knowledge sharing between the maritime industry and academia, as well as development of the competencies required of future decision-makers and transition enablers. Today as a follow on to the previous day’s discussions there was further elaboration around key research in FutuRaM, focussing on the challenges we have and how these will be addressed. ?? FutuRaM is a complex project with many different strands and pulling these together to make a whole greater than the parts is key to the success. We are now at this stage and are grateful to our leaders and researchers for collaborating to make this happen. It goes without saying that relying on our Advisory Board's input is also a valuable step in this process. Closing the day, Soraya Heuss-A?bichler from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universit?t München presented the initial results of the concept of the UNFC methodology for application to secondary raw materials and Ronald Arvidsson (SGU) gave an example of how this is applied to mining waste before the consortium heads up North next year. ? These are important times for FutuRaM. We are working on delivering the crux of the project output as well as being honoured to be able to already deliver results to aid the implementation of the CRMA. ?? New funding for a cool new project!?? We're excited to have been awarded CDTI Innovación - Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación funding to develop 'SPSI: Spain-Korea collaboration on reducing levelised cost of energy (#LCOE) and designing high-density #wind farms with a floating multi-wind turbine solution' (SKILLS). The SKILLS project aims to advance the implementation of floating #OffshoreWind farm technologies. CoreMarine's role will be to lead the #mooring and #DynamicCable systems design, define the criteria for the #WindFarm layout design, and drive the digitalisation of the preliminary design methodology for these critical systems. Driving the adoption of hydrogen derivatives as maritime fuels and handling goods in Baltic Sea ports - supported by the management and financial expertise of our partner HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH . HPC Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) has been entrusted with project coordination and financial management for the "H2-Derivatives@BalticSeaPorts" (H2Deri@BSP) project. The ambitious initiative, funded by the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027 and led by Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM), will start in March 2025 and run until February 2028. ?? H2Deri@BSP brings together 15 project partners from seven Baltic Sea littoral states, including public port authorities, energy suppliers, and liquid bulk operators. In addition, the project is supported by 23 associated organizations, contributing their diverse expertise to tackling the challenges of green hydrogen derivatives. This broad-based consortium will collaboratively develop solutions to accelerate the use of green hydrogen derivatives, establish initial application cases, and create a scalable roadmap for the green energy transition in ports. “We look forward to supporting our partners in developing solutions for handling and distributing hydrogen derivatives.
