Here’s what they built ???? 1?? CLaiM simplifies disaster recovery by enabling homeowners to record a video of their home, utilizing Hyperbolic’s vision-language model, Qwen2 VL7B, to identify and appraise items. This data is securely stored on the blockchain, ensuring verified and streamlined insurance claims after a disaster. 2?? Watchdog enhances school safety by using Hyperbolic’s AI Inference models to detect weapons and monitor emotional escalations in real-time through school surveillance, instantly alerting security personnel to potential threats for quick intervention. 3?? Teddy AI transforms stuffed animals into interactive educational toys, using Hyperbolic’s Mello TTS for audio generation to guide children through personalized, conversational math lessons and adventures—blending learning with play to keep kids engaged. "The power of mathematics: applying the fundamentals to thinking" We hear about the importance of #mathematics in our latest article, interviewing Toshiya Shimizu from the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Through mathematics, Toshiya developed the habit of thoroughly examining the principles and foundations of things, and learned the importance of solidly understanding the basics. During his time in graduate school, he was torn between continuing his research in pure mathematics or pursuing a path where he could use mathematics to create technologies that benefit society. On October 21, 2024, the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS) made an incredible discovery—the largest known Mersenne prime number! This rare prime, written as 2^136,279,841 - 1, has 41 million digits and is over 16 million digits larger than the previous record. But what exactly is a Mersenne prime, and why should we care? What is a Mersenne Prime? ?? A Mersenne prime is a rare type of prime number that can be written in the form 2^P - 1, where P is itself a prime number. For example, when P = 3, the result is 7 (since 2^3 - 1 = 7). Mersenne primes are incredibly rare and hard to find—this new prime, 2^136,279,841 - 1, is only the 52nd ever discovered! 10 years ago there was a huge amount of hype about #crypto and #blockchain but most colleagues I spoke with didn’t really get it. At the time, I embarked on a journey of research and discovery - sharing my fumbling insights on LinkedIn. Today, I get an eerily similar feeling about #GenerativeAI. The hype is real about how it might transform #productivity, customer #engagement and the #advice experience. But once again, most people I speak with in our industry are still struggling to get their heads around the practical applications. A lightbulb ??moment for me came in understanding how computers used to process information (serially) vs how they process it today (parallel). Historically, this meant that if a computer wanted to find a word in a book they would need to read through it word-by-word. They could do this faster than humans but still they needed to do this one word at a time in sequence. ?? Today with GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) and LLMs (Large Language Models), computers can essentially rip a book (or image) apart and isolate all its component parts instantaneously. AI models then put these components back together in new and interesting ways that would take humans much longer or would require a lot more of our creative energy. ??
