After announcing proposals to make changes to paternity leave rights in summer 2023, the government has now published draft legislation in the form of the Paternity Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2024. Campaigners for enhanced paternity leave have attached model babies in slings to statues of famous men across central London. Activists from a campaign group, the Dad Shift, tied baby slings to statues including Isambard Kingdom Brunel to draw attention to the importance of father-baby bonding. According to the campaigners the UK’s statutory paternity leave is the worst in Europe. Dads and other co-parents get only two weeks off, paid at less than ￡185 a week. Photograph ?
