It's great to see structured giving highlighted at this time of year! Good read in the The Australian Financial Review on the growing popularity of structured giving. Some great examples of how givers are using private ancillary funds and sub-funds to thoughtfully plan how they want to give over time while: - maximising tax benefits - growing investment returns - considering legacy and the next generation and, - the longer lasting impact of their giving. Hot off the presses! Today marks the release of the highly-anticipated Giving USA report, the compilation and analysis of statistics in charitable giving across the US for 2023. Some highlights: ?? Total giving is up over 2022 figures but down slightly when adjusted for inflation. ?? Total giving is up over 28% from 2019 to 2023 showing a longer-term upward trend. ?? Giving is up across all categories of donors: Individuals (still supreme at 67% of the total), Foundations, Corporations and Bequests. ?? Giving is up across all categories of recipients: Religion, Education, Human Services, Health, International Affairs, Arts, Culture and Humanities, and Environment and Animals. There's even some good news for LUNA Instructor Glenn Kaufhold who teaches a session he calls Middle Donor Magic: 89% of mid-level donors report planning to give again in the next 12 months. Also interesting is the analysis of the great wealth transfer from the silent and boomer generations to younger generations. At $84 trillion it is the largest in history. So much to dive into here.
