For over two decades, the Air Defense Artillery (ADA) units played a crucial role in unconventional missions during the counterinsurgency fights in Afghanistan and Iraq. Many ADA units were assigned non-conventional roles like base defense/security, entry control points, route security, and detainee operations, while some executed their wartime mission supporting the Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) or Short-Range Air Defense (SHORAD) weapon systems. As the operational landscape shifts to near-peer threats, the demand for qualified ADA Soldiers is on the rise. With the focus on emerging global threats from nations like Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, and non-state actors, the U.S. Army is ramping up efforts to rebuild ADA units and force structure. The strategic deployment of ADA units remains vital for national security, and the Army is committed to recruiting, training, and equipping Air Defenders to safeguard our skies and ground forces.

Command post survivability and flexibility is key in today's operating environment. Similiar to what 2nd Infantry Division - Korea is doing with its Command Post Integrated Infrastructure (CPI2) units, the 4th Infantry Division will conduct a series of command post exercises (CPX) this year to improve its on-the-move command and control for future combat scenarios. Last year the division validated its Mobile Command Post (MCP) platform in Europe with a series of cross-country exercises (https://lnkd.in/eg_T2MSZ) that forced the 4ID HQ to be located in different urban and rural environements. The 4th Infantry Division continues to lead the way in building multi-domain capabilities and command post operations to meet the challenges of the US Army's complex operating environment. #StayReady | #LethalTeams III Armored Corps U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) https://lnkd.in/esPP6zPF

The United States Marine Corps is ramping up its air defense capabilities, and they're turning to the US Army for expertise. For the first time, Marines hosted the Army's air defense artillery fire control officer course, focusing on the operation of the MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system. This collaboration is crucial as the Marine Corps develops its own new air defense systems. This training will help Marines integrate Patriot-like systems into their air defense network, enhancing their ability to defend against aerial threats. It also signifies a stronger partnership between the Army and Marines, crucial for joint operations. This collaboration highlights the importance of inter-service cooperation in a rapidly changing security environment. It's inspiring to see these branches of the military working together to ensure the safety and security of our nation. #military #marines #army #airdefense #patriotmissile #jointforces #interoperability #defense #security #training #innovation #militarylife #veterans #marinescorps

In a show of growing military cooperation on NATO’s eastern flank, artillery units from Estonia and Poland recently participated in joint live-fire exercises during the ?kktuli 2024 training event. Hosted by the Estonian Defence Forces (EDF), this exercise marked the first collaboration between the two nations using K9 self-propelled howitzers. The drills were designed to test and refine the capabilities of both conscripts transitioning to reserve service and seasoned reservists. The exercise brought together conscripts from Estonia’s January fire battery and reservists from the 1st and 2nd Infantry Brigades, along with artillery teams from Poland’s 1st Artillery Brigade. The primary focus was on honing indirect fire skills and enhancing the readiness of both Estonian and Polish artillery forces. Estonia and Poland both operate the K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzers, a state-of-the-art 155mm self-propelled howitzer developed by South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gGJrUQNQ

The US Army announced the cancellation of the Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA) programme, a significant initiative that began in 2018 with the goal of enhancing the nation's artillery capabilities. The decision comes after a series of challenges encountered during the prototyping phase last year, which ultimately prevented the programme from reaching its ambitious objectives. The ERCA programme sought to revolutionize the artillery capabilities of the U.S. Army by mounting a 58-caliber gun tube on the Paladin M109 self-propelled howitzer. This modification was intended to enable the launch of 155mm rounds over an unprecedented operational range of 70 kilometers, significantly extending the reach of ground forces. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have officially introduced the Roem (Sigma) self-propelled howitzer, marking a significant advancement in artillery technology. This 155mm/52 caliber self-propelled howitzer, developed by Elbit Systems, is being hailed as the world’s first fully automatic artillery piece. The Roem is set to replace hundreds of aging 155 mm/39 calibre M109 howitzers within the Israeli Artillery Corps. The integration of the Roem would enhance the capabilities of corps commanders, providing close and lethal support to maneuvering forces and significantly improving both offensive and defensive operations. One of the most innovative aspects of the Roem is its ability to fire multiple shells in rapid succession at varying trajectories, creating a salvo effect on the target. The Roem stands out for its rapid deployment capabilities, transitioning from travel to fire mode in just 60 seconds and boasting a firing rate of eight rounds per minute. This wheeled system offers superior mobility compared to the tracked M109 and has an impressive firing range of up to 40 kilometers (25 miles). The gun’s European variant is expected to achieve a range of up to 80 kilometers (50 miles), showcasing the system’s adaptable design for different operational requirements. Built on a modified Oshkosh 10×10 military truck chassis, the Roem features an armored cabin at the front, providing enhanced blast and mine protection for its crew of three. Roem is a 155mm/52 calibre self-propelled howitzer capable of automatic loading and laying of the gun system, rapid in-and-out action times and high rate of fire. The system’s fully automatic loading and laying capabilities, combined with its rapid in-and-out action times and high rate of fire, make it a formidable addition to modern artillery arsenals. It offers a protected cabin for a crew of three. Depending on the mission, Roem is capable of automatically selecting and loading the required projectile, propellant and fuze and laying the gun to optimally engage targets. Mounted on the rear of the chassis will be an automatic turret armed with a 155 mm/52 calibre barrel with a 23 litre chamber that meets the NATO Joint Ballistic Memorandum of Understanding (JBMoU), and is fitted with a muzzle brake and fume extractor. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gKUH4Hut

**Army to Test Hypervelocity Projectile for 155mm Cannon Artillery** ============================================================ The US Army plans to test a hypervelocity projectile designed for 155mm cannon artillery, aiming to significantly increase the range and accuracy of its artillery systems. The project, developed by the Army's Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) and industry partner, aims to demonstrate the capabilities of the projectile, which can travel at speeds of over Mach 5 (around 6,000 mph). The test is expected to take place in the coming months and will assess the projectile's performance in various scenarios, including targeting fixed and moving targets. Brilliant capability. Add the AML and the future growth for range and lethality is so promising
The sooner the Australian Army is able to conduct similar littoral exercises with our own HIMARS the better. Time to rediscover the rich history of Coastal Artillery in this nation of ours. Also an ideal task to assign to our Reserve component - just like the US Marine Corps do. #littoral #indopacific #artillery #futureready
