Cyberattacks are like a disease outbreak. If left unattended, an attacker can spread their influence rampantly throughout your corporate systems. Let’s say that a worm infects a computer on your network and starts jumping from machine to machine. This would consume the entire network in little time if left unchecked. This is where the concept of network segmentation comes in. Network segmentation divides your company’s network into smaller pieces that cannot talk to one another. There are two types of segmentation: Physical and logical. Physical / Air-gapped: -Segments are physically isolated from one another. Logical Segmentation / VLAN: -Virtual segmentation through the use of networking hardware. To provide an example, you may want your marketing department to have its own segment so that any attack there cannot affect the accounting department. The security of your network depends on your ability to notice and contain threats. If you haven’t given this thought before, now is the time.
