For Pete's Sake ? Cancer Respite Foundation and Woodloch Resort are coming together to create a transformative space: the nation’s first onsite respite facility, the For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Center at Woodloch. Projected to open in 2026, this innovative center will provide renewal and relief to over 4,000 individuals annually, redefining cancer care in Pennsylvania. The 34,000-square-foot facility will offer restorative experiences with amenities like nature trails, art therapy rooms, water therapy pools, and a dining hall serving 60,000 meals a year, all designed in collaboration with oncology experts. With a $3.5 million state grant advancing its $25 million fundraising goal, this ambitious project is set to break ground in 2025. Rooted in over a decade of collaboration, this partnership exemplifies the profound impact of connection, compassion, and purpose in supporting families navigating the cancer journey. Through the V Foundation, the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund launched 10 years ago. 100% of direct donations go directly to research and/or to underrepresented researchers of color. Our priorities are two-fold: 1) invest in game-changing cancer health disparities research to save more lives 2) invest in all-star scientists to diversity the cancer research talent pipeline Over the last 10 years, we have invested more than $40M in research dedicated to cancer health disparities. The Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund helped finance a significant portion of these grants. Over the last 10 years, more than 18% of all V Foundation research grants have focused on cancer disparities and/or are studying particularly diverse population groups. Over the last 10-years, when considering all grants funded by the V Foundation for all forms of cancer research, 13% of have been granted to underrepresented researchers. For context, the National Institutes of Health award approximately 3% of research grants to underrepresented researchers. During this 10th Anniversary year of Stuart's fund, we announced a record-breaking partnership with the Dolphins Cancer Challenge and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami. The $30M partnership – which represents the single largest onetime partnership in the history of the V Foundation – is dedicated to address cancer health disparity research. To put it simply, the V Foundation team is addressing cancer health disparities like no other organization.
