The implementation of this Act couldn't come at a better time, coinciding with Kenya's proud hosting of the UN CSO Conference 2024. The PBO act is a testament to Kenya's commitment to fostering a vibrant civil society and empowering organizations that work tirelessly for the betterment of our communities. What are some of the wins for PBOs? ?? ? Simplified Registration Process: The Act expedites the registration process, removing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles and reducing chances of arbitrary decisions. ? Transparency and Predictability: Say goodbye to whimsical administrative discretion! The Act provides a clear and predictable framework for PBOs, ensuring fairness and accountability. ? Have you heard about the Public Benefit Organizations Act, 2013? It is the law that repealed the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, which previously governed the registration and existence of NGOs in Kenya. Though enacted in 2013, the Public Benefit Organizations Act commenced on 14th May 2024. It's poised to transform the landscape for societal impact organizations in Kenya. The implementation of the Public Benefit Organizations Act brings along a number of compliance issues that every new PBO, including former NGOs, must understand and navigate.
