Crime Scene Investigator vs. Forensic Science Technician: What's the Difference? Both roles play crucial parts in criminal investigations, but there are key distinctions. - Crime Scene Investigators are the first responders at crime scenes. They meticulously document and collect evidence, preserving it for analysis. They're often on-call and work irregular hours. - Forensic Science Technicians work primarily in laboratories, analyzing the evidence collected at crime scenes. They use specialized techniques to examine fingerprints, DNA, ballistics, and other types of evidence. Which role interests you? Do you work for a Forensic Science Service Provider (FSSP) in the US? Are you involved in the hiring process (applicant screening, interviews, candidate selection)? Your opinions and expertise are needed! I am recirculating two surveys on hiring expectations and requirements for crime scene units and crime laboratories. What can we adjust in the FEPAC system and general forensic science education pathways? First-round results indicated that FSSPs are looking for more instrumentation courses and hands-on skills in entry-level applicants. Is this true? Not true? Anything specific to add? Do you have anecdotes or stories to share? Let us know by taking the surveys below: Crime Laboratories (US and Canada): https://lnkd.in/ejZD3xaC Crime Scene Units: https://lnkd.in/eBpcAsGS I will be writing this up for publication when all is said and done. Please share the links with colleagues, coworkers, professional contacts, and whoever can spread the word!
