A field test conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of a drone based OGI camera system. A standard propane tank was used equipped with a .1 – 1 SCFH flowmeter, set at a flow rate of .4 SCFH . This minimal amount of propane is very easily detected at an altitude of 30’ and at a distance of 100’ away. HSM (High Sensitivity Mode) further increases the detection of very minute fugitive methane releases from a safe distance. An extremely important factor to consider in any OGI inspection is wind direction. With a drone based OGI camera’s maneuverability, this potential impediment is removed. Being able acquire views from multi-directional positions provides for a much more thorough inspection.
