As we move into the latest days of summer New Student Orientation advising, I work more diligently to help students understand that they still have choices of classes that both fulfill degree requirements, and have the potential to teach them interesting stuff. How wonderful to see their faces brighten at the prospect of taking Intro to Scuba, African American and African Diaspora history, or Liberty and Justice: A Philosophical Introduction! One of the first things undergrads need to learn: they are not one-dimensional.

Inspiring the next generation to embrace innovation is not just about shaping their future—it's about securing ours. As leaders, mentors, and changemakers, we have the responsibility to guide today’s youth toward discovering their potential and fostering creativity. Whether it’s through nurturing curiosity, teaching problem-solving, or celebrating diverse ideas, we can empower them to think big and dream even bigger. Arizona State University is connecting generations to ease loneliness through several programs including the Friendship Bench Program run by Edson College Assistant Professor Aaron Guest. “This provides an opportunity for students to have a listening ear to process things that they're going through, but also to meet someone from another generation and to engage with them.” The program launch on ASU campuses was made possible thanks to the support of the BHHS Legacy Foundation. What does Merry Christmas mean? We hope you Enjoy Christmas? Enjoy what about Christmas? Presumably it's something to do with the birth of Jesus? What is there to enjoy today? What if the secret to the enjoyment of life was revealed today? Christmas day is a celebration of Evolutionary Emergence. Something appearing from nothing - as described by the Virgin Birth. How can understanding evolutionary emergence (as demonstrated by Jesus on his birthday) help people to enjoy this (to have a Merry Christmas) and EVERY (to live happily ever after) other day? The realisation that the exact same process of emergence may occur within the human mind (through Learning what is loved) - to give rise to the 'Virgin Birth' in context of an individual's quality. To become an unprecedented better (hence 'Virgin Birth') than we were just momentarily a priori. The gift of Christmas is to teach us that the ENTIRE basis to reality is in Emergence. Emergence may occur within an abstraction layer (for instance in the development of mind in wisdom or development of mind in art as we get better in both) - or it can happen, essentially similarly - in the transition between abstaction layers (species) - as we see today! albeit a few thousand years away.

We know that each of our schools does many things well, but imagine that you're giving an "elevator pitch" about your school. Time is limited, there's just not enough opportunity to share 4 or 5 things, so you pick your best 3. ? Try it. It's a fun exercise and helps to formulate strategic points of emphasis and stories about our schools. ?? Here's an example: At Fredericton Christian Academy ?? our 3 greatest strengths are: 1?? Tremendous teachers who are passionate about their craft 2?? Caring Christian community where students are known 3?? Excellent experiences provided in an authentic Canadian environment One place that I share our 3 greatest strengths is with international families at education fairs. ?? In my experience, families appreciate schools that know and leverage their strengths to benefit their children. ??
