As we approach the end-of-year giving season, I’ve taken some time to review several years' worth of appeal letters from various organizations. One thing stands out to me as both a donor and a supporter: I’m most compelled by copy that is truly engaging. The most effective appeals are those where the organization feels like it’s having a genuine conversation with me—where they ask thoughtful questions that draw me in and make me feel personally involved. This conversational approach, where the letter feels less like a one-way request and more like a two-way dialogue, creates a connection. It fosters a sense of shared purpose, making me feel like a valued partner in the mission. Generic example: "Can you imagine the impact we could make together in the coming year if we continue to grow our efforts?"
